This will be ongoing in appeals for years.

Their basis for an appeal is pretty slim.

Essentially, this ruling says “we ain’t MAKING you change it, but you might as well.”

Under federal trademark law, if a trademark is considered disparaging to certain individuals or “brings them into contempt or disrepute”, as the law states specifically, then they have full authority to reject the trademark. That’s what they’ve done here.

NOW…this doesn’t mean the Redskins have to change their name. But they might as WELL, because what it DOES do is limit their legal options when other people start using that logo and/or name on merchandise, as others have said already.

So ANYBODY can use that name...it's almost "tainted" now and therefore not NFL-exclusive.

The real story here is the fact that the Native American lobby is FINALLY vibrant enough to secure the clout to effect this. That’s why they were rejected in the past, not enough clout.

I just think it's great that no matter how long he pushes this thing...the name will have to change...it has become a topic of discussion. Now they are after Snyder personally.... it will have to change. They even used the Wizards name change as not only a sensible one but local to the same metro area.....

I think it's great....... as I know how much the racial slurs fan's love the team and name......
