who pays the private regulator?
Government would require the regulators stamp of approval in order to operate in the market company. The market players would pay.
Similar to us having to pay for car insurance.

Tax payers should be funding this kind of incompetence/shyt show... IMHO

the power difference between water companies and car insurance customers is very different. each car insurance customer is merely one of millions paying about a hundred bucks a month. a water company may have a monopoly in a market and will undoubtedly be responsible for a massive portion of that rating agencies income...

what keeps the agencies from viewing the water company as the only person who matters?

The law... same thing that is suppose to keep govt regulatory agencies from viewing it that way.
Difference being tax payers aren't on the hook when they inevitably f*ck up.

Also i believe both the people and the gov have an easier time punishing/laying blame on the private sector(as evidenced by this thread). it would at the very least make regulators accountable to if nothing else, public opinion.

isnt this pretty much what we do with credit rating agencies, and they still found it in their best interest to be the buddy of the banks and not the public?

Corruption is inevitable in any system involving humans... I dont believe tax payers should be funding it:manny:
... and i believe regulators that are on the hook should things go wrong will pay more attention than regulators who are not.

:pachaha:Oh you think my distrust of the state and it’s processes is dependent on the actors?

...ok.

:ufdup:It’s gov gonna gov
Not liberal gov or conservative gov.
Two sides same coin far as I’m concerned.
wait, gov is gonna gov as if its some type of AI or robot as if the Gov doesnt = people that are voted in and then placed in there via the president? stop it. yes you are correct so called democrats can and will hire the same or similar shady invdividuals that have previously ran corporations that didnt care about the environment or the people. the gov is gonna gov because people passively pay attention to those they vote for at ALL levels. thats on us.
