The West has given them a blank check to send missiles indiscriminately into the city, and they control the water and power.

Walking into Gaza would be like hornet jumping a spider's web to pick a fight. You're entering the opposition's home turf, a place they are intimately familiar with and with an angry populace that's been getting bombed looking to collect as many Israeli dogtags as possible before a possible last stand. As you saw in Ukraine, a population defending their homes and family against an invader is a dangerous opponent, as they acknowledge their backs are up against the wall and they may be the only thing standing between their family and a grisly fate.

They are highly motivated, have no fear of death, and have a higher capacity for violence. Throw in religious fervor in thce mix as well, and you have fanatical defenders who will make invaders hemorrhage for every inch of territory
