What do they stand to gain by entering Gaza?

The West has given them a blank check to send missiles indiscriminately into the city, and they control the water and power.

Walking into Gaza would be like hornet jumping a spider's web to pick a fight. You're entering the opposition's home turf, a place they are intimately familiar with and with an angry populace that's been getting bombed looking to collect as many Israeli dogtags as possible before a possible last stand. As you saw in Ukraine, a population defending their homes and family against an invader is a dangerous opponent, as they acknowledge their backs are up against the wall and they may be the only thing standing between their family and a grisly fate.

They are highly motivated, have no fear of death, and have a higher capacity for violence. Throw in religious fervor in the mix as well, and you have fanatical defenders who will make invaders hemorrhage for every inch of territory

Hostage situation means they gotta either go in or just say "them people gone". No nation is going to stand for 200+ hostages being just gone...so they are going in. But more important than that, is this might be the only time they get to annex massive parts of Gaza all at once with the blessing of the west.

The IDF will suffer massive losses but they've also got air control, so they'll preemptively airstrike an area then send in light armor followed by infantry sweeps. But they will STILL suffer losses.
