Yeah, I moved out here to Arizona from Ohio, and I swear like 80% of the time I meet someone else black, they mention they're from somewhere in the Midwest. There's a LOT of folks from Chicago out here.

Paradise Valley/Scottsdale historically has been one of the biggest areas where Chicagoans vacationed. I’m not exactly sure why that was but Chicagoans have been moving out there in numbers for years or own second homes. There is such a big Chicago market out there that an old employer of mine, which is this old money bank in Chicago, opened up an office in Tempe and is relocating a good chunk of its staff out to Arizona. And talking to some old co-workers of mine that relocated, they love it.

I didn’t know that there were that many blacks out there from the Midwest though which is interesting. But Scottsdale/Paradise Valley is a second home market for Chicago.

Visited Paradise Valley a few years ago and :whoo:, that town is breathtaking.

I agree. But Florida is in a weird space. There's plenty of black people and a hidden black middle class in Fla. But Florida doesn't market it's self like GA and other Southern states do. Florida doesn't market it's self as a black mecca, even though the numbers are there and those numbers are growing quickly. I guess when the numbers are perceived to be bolstered by civil unrest and natural disaster in foreign nations, it makes the black growth in Fla seem "cheap" compared to other states. For the record, there's a large black middle class in certain parts of Florida that is low-key. Broward County isn't all just Pompano Beach and Lauderhill.
Also there's plenty of west Indian and AA political clout in Florida. There's Haitian mayors, lawyers, doctors etc. SoFla might low-key be the Haitian ATL.

:patrice:

Yeah, it's not all just Zoe Pound. But at the same time, it's not on GA's level in terms of emanating a sense of Black excellence. Florida still markets it's self as a touristy State. And you can't be a popular tourist state without marketing yourself to the "dominant society"(as Tariq would say). And let's face it, the most popular Black faces that get any recognition from Florida are usually athletes and rappers(think Kodak :mjpls:). On the flipside, the state above Florida always has a new story about how Black people are changing the political and or economic climate in their state to better suit their growing black demographic.

GA markets it's self as being steeped in black progress.
:wow:

Florida markets it's self as being the place where ppl of all races can either retire and die, or get throw'd/wasted(and potentially die), or visit Mickey.....and die. Lol

:francis:

But Miami is trying to change its image by embracing the arts and such. They're trying to throw that "party only" image in the bushes. And both Orlando and Miami are trying to bolster their tech scenes. There's a couple of cool Black start-ups in Miami that are blazing the scene. There's even a coding workshop in the historically black Overtown neighborhood. All in all florida need to take notes from GA. GA is literally right above you. Take notes or ask for help.

Cant remember where exactly he was from but dude be serious talking about "I put my life on it. That's my word"

Edit: Now i remember he was either from NY and NJ. He was always repping BX or BK cant remember. Older head. Probably 45 if not 50 by now. Seems like black people are wasting their population power by being in large numbers in some states but still being very low in percentages in those same states. That is what you call hustling backwards politically. :yeshrug:

Every other black person I meet, whether overs-seas, airport, etc is always from either from "the DMV," Texas, Georgia, New York, California, North Carolina, Virginia, Illinois, New Jersey or Ohio, so I'm not surprised. Literally have never met a black person from anywhere else...A ton of them, including myself have family in Alabama etc. but I've not met a black person under 40 actually born and raised in Alabama, Kentucky or Missouri -- I imagine economic opportunity to leave those states are few and far in between so a lot of the ones there are likely 'stuck' there unless they really are determined to get out.

We are really such a small segment of the population, it's crazy -- yet everything bad and wrong with the USA managed to get blamed on us.

I spent 20+ years in midtown Kansas City, Missouri....there is several parts of the city you'd be hard pressed to find a single white person. STL is the same.

Mexicans are going to dominate Texas in 10 years.

Black people need to head East to Georgia, North Carolina, etc.

They've had the numbers (not even counting the illegals) but just don't vote enough. If they participated like blacks/whites, the state would be theirs.

Southwest in general is like that. Latinos down here would get more done if they separated from non-Hispanic whites. They had first dibs before the Scots-Irish, Czechs, Germans and Polish got here. Mexicans just reclaiming back :russ:

The thing about the Texas numbers is Texas is so big. I'm willing to bet 90% of that 3.5 million live east of i35
I mean, Texas in general is wasted space. I feel like it's a lot of opportunity for black folks and land out there.
