Waiters & waitresses don't even make minimum wage here, that's why..they make a couple of bucks an hour..
How many $20 tips before you're over the minimum wage threshold? If he's eaten $50 worth of food $20 would be generous....but since he spent $500 he's a miser. Either $20 is a good tip or not

According to you guys person B is a scumbag for only tipping 10%,.
But the waiter takes more than double the money home in tips in the second scenario.
They should do what we do here...include everything in the price including taxes instead of shaming people into subsiding the employer. It must be a nightmare to go out as a group in the US.
The price you see is the price you pay. If people want to STILL tip beyond that then that's their prerogative but no one scrutinises their behaviour.
