They should do what we do here...include everything in the price including taxes instead of shaming people into subsiding the employer. It must be a nightmare to go out as a group in the US.

The price you see is the price you pay. If people want to STILL tip beyond that then that's their prerogative but no one scrutinises their behaviour.

the severs have to split that tip with the bussboys, dishwashers, prep cooks, bartenders, etc. at the end of the day they might see 1/4th of the actual tip.

They get taxed on card tips and have to split their tips with the kitchen, I think with the people at the bar, and I think the restaurant takes a small percentage out of it.

They aren't making the food or washing the dishes, they're carrying the fukking plates (about a quarter of the way full) plus filling up drinks


why exactly should the tip go up in proportion to the bill ? What, are they too good for the same $20 a waiter at a cheaper restaurant might get? How about the fast food workers and pizza delivery drivers? It's the same amount of work, what's the problem? And let's not even discuss the bullshyt as "captain's gratuity" bullshyt ^100

Don't get me wrong, I'll pay 15, 20% extortion fee, but it's a raggedy ass concept that needs to be worked out between them and the restaurant.
