They’re definitely hip hop

sorry man. if you don’t understand that Mary j Blige has hip hop classics (Real Love, I Can Love You, Jamboree) where she never raps a bar, then we’re never gonna get anywhere with this debate.

all those folks are 100% hip hop, fwiw. the culture is just being expressed in a different format.

No doubt.

@mobbinfms you're my fam on here since day one, but I think if you really think about it, you might see Mary J, Aaliyah, and a lot of those artists as being just as hip-hop as anyone else.
So those artists aren’t R&B then? Are ya’ll arguing R&B and hip hop is the same thing? I’m legit confused.
I get that certain R&B artists brought a hip hop swag and aesthetic to the music in the 90s and Puff had Jodeci and Mary singing over classic hip hop beats, but they were always R&B singers.

I wouldn't say they were relying on it...Cam had no point.

like earlier said in the thread, nothing was stoping the dips from using anything they were on...other than them not utilizing it
that's my point, not sure who picks the setlist the artist or DJ but the sequencing was terrible

That's the thing...they really weren't. The Lox were played in the Tunnel right along with all of them dudes. Bruh...they were on the biggest club hit of the late 90s with All About the Benjamins. shyt....the Lox were the ones who had Mase sounding grimmy. The Lox always had that love being shoulder to shoulder with the names you mentioned. And the streets had more say on what was big.

Overshadowed? :mjlol: Hell no. They had label issues and the lane changed when DipSet came through.
When they did Wild Out, Blood Pressure and fukk You in the tunnel :ohhh::picard::wow::mjcry::dead:

I can’t really explain it but I know when I read those names my immediate response was of course they’re hip hop.

It’s the culture breh.

Those artists are just as loved in the culture as 99% of rap nikkas.

Juelz got embarrassed up there multiple times. He couldn't remember a 4 bar hook to one of New York City's most iconic anthems. He got his bandana snatched off his head and thrown on the ground. He stupidly threw up an alley oop to Jadakiss for a 6-song run by The Lox that put the final nail in the coffin for Dipset. He either forgot all of his words to S.A.N.T.A.N.A. or just didn't care enough to say any of them. He was dressed exactly like it was 2005. He got picked on for his missing teeth. At one point he just laid down on the stage like:deadrose:. Juelz gave off more "I don't want to be here right now" vibes than anyone else on the stage.

That man is broken.

He look like Cam and Jim had to drag him out a filthy ass apartment, throw some clothes on him, and let him borrow some fugazzi jewelry just 3 hours before the show.

He probably begged Jim or Cam to buy him at least some cheap veneers a week before the show. He looks like what we'd expect of a man home from a bid who had to do some filthy things in the joint. Not saying that's what happened, but that's what those guys look like. Just a shell of themselves.

The first hour he was on stage looking like he was zooted.
