Bone Thugs are the greatest group of all time who also make the dumbest decisions of all time.

I’m already expecting them to pull out some dumb tracks no one cares for (shyt like Candy Paint, GEt up and get it etc) and Bizzy will most likely do a no show meaning Kray and Lay going to have to do all the work while Flesh sits back since he ain’t gonna be on most of the tracks and Wish is just gonna scream his head off and sound awful like normal

:mjcry:

Until they rebranded as Hypnotize Minds Records, they were basically the Dayton Family of the south.

That 3 year run of Enquiring Minds, CrazyNDaLazDayz, Ghetty Green, Hypnotize Camp Posse, When The Smoke Clears, Mista Don't Play, Both Worlds *69, and Choices broke them out of Memphis and the underground.
:obama: at the bolded. That's a damn good comparison

Yea but I don’t think it’s fair to compare their popularity (at that time). Bone got signed to Eazy-E that’s a big ass cosign behind them. Three 6 didn’t even sign an actual deal outside of distribution until like 97. Plus outside of Outkast who else in the south would be able to say they were above B or C level artists popularity wise at that time. Until No Limit/Cash Money I can only think of Geto Boys off bat. UGK are legends but they never sold that much either. Idk what to say seems like the south only really got love in the south until No Limit came thru tbh
36 were regional until they dropped Tear The Club Up in 97.
Levels isn’t just about sales. G Rap was unquestionably A Level in 89 even though he didn’t go gold. In 97 No Limit was A level, Face, Kast, Goodie Mob, Ball and G. UGK is a strange case. They were well regarded but, despite being on a major, got no push. Riding Dirty had no videos :russ:
I could see an argument for them being A level.

and possible but the same goes for Bone Thugs. Their relevance decreased as time went on while Three 6 increases as time goes on. I mean the man in my avy done remixed like 5 Three 6 songs this year alone :myman:. Like I said in an earlier post, u can find songs from every year from like 2011/2012 up to today sampling three 6/using they style/or even reusing their lyrics
Fax. Bone’s relevance has definitely decreased dramatically over the years. It’s crazy to me that Mobb Deep, today, has more monthly Spotify listeners than Bone. When Bone was 5x-10x bigger than them in real time. :wow:
Bone still has more monthly listeners than 36, although not Juicy J as a solo artist.

Put your 20 Bone songs beside theirs...and then try and place yourself in the place of the majority of America. Not hip hop purists we may have grown up around, who Bone has strangely imo always been dear despite not being lyrical.
The majority of serious hip hop fans from my generation, I’m 41, outside of the South, as well as casual fans, are going to know more Bone songs.
I think it’s the opposite for people under 30.
So I suspect you are going to have wildly different reactions to this Verzuz.

So they're a B to C level group up until like 2005...and then they took off? If so that says a whole lot cause it's 2021, and the younger generation are rocking with them now.
Fax. Their influence outpaces the impact they had for most of their career.

Yea I thought about both them and UGK but all there record sales are basically in the same area as Three 6 so if he considers them B/C level group then they are too. And actually out of all 3 I think Three 6 is the only ones wit a platinum album.
It’s not just sales. Ball and G and UGK just had that respect that 36 didn’t have (initially, they finally got their respect when Stay Fly dropped)

Nah. They were nationwide the minute Tear The Club Up dropped in 97. That record and album got a push. Everyone knew who they were.

Yeaa that’s fax like I said they ain’t go nationwide really until 97 lmao I don’t think they even had any videos until then. I know Skinny Pimp had a video for One Life to Live but I don’t remember any 36 videos until Tear da Club up 97. and I agree at that point they were still only B/C level popularity wise until like Stay Fly which is crazy tbh.

Thing is Paul and Juicy had been selling hella records independently since high school making more money than most artists on majors. They’re 2 of the greatest producers oat. Infamous could spit, Boo could spit and Koopsta Knicca had a crazy ass unique style. Wonder why it took them so long to get their respect. Maybe all the bad business they did in the Memphis scene soured their name?

It's hard to rate how prominent southern acts were at the time because they are so much more highly regarded retroactively.
