P’s formula has always been to imitate and make quick money with no long term efficiency. It hit HARD but had no staying power.
Nationally NL was on poppin in 1997-late 1998 until CMR came and took over in 1999 (no pun intended) being more authentically New Orleans and innovating.
CMR never fell off anywhere near the absolute drop NL had where they just started started straight up imitating CMR in every way.
And I say this as somebody who was a big NL fan since Down South Hustlers and P’s very first Southern hit “Bounce Dat Azz” (Bout It hit a lil later when the video got Rap City play in early 1996)
