if there is one remaining running back you dont :birdman: it's perterson. dude is an exceptional talent and deserves to fade to black slowly, damn, at least try to resrtucure. AD literally carried your sorry team to the offs. like i said in another thread, unless you're a QB, any player getting 8 figures per is not seeing that for more than two years, max.

The Vikings are looking for ways to part with superstar runner Adrian Peterson sooner rather than later. Peterson is 29 and when backs hit 30, their production usually drops off precipitously. Backs age in dog years, and despite Peterson’s adamantium bone structure, he isn’t impervious to aging. The contract situation is also brutal. Peterson will receive a base salary of $11.75 million in 2014, then $12.75 million in 2015. In 2017, it will climb to $15.75 million

That is simply an impossible salary structure to pay a player in today’s game, where the running back position has been greatly devalued.

“My person opinion,” said one AFC general manager, “is this (coming) season will be Peterson’s last with the Vikings. Despite the cap hit, they’ll make some sort of move to get him off the roster.”

The feelings have more to do with salary cap issues, and less to do with Peterson being the best back in the NFL. Peterson makes quarterback money, and Minnesota could wisely split Peterson’s salary among three players at more pressing positions. As Peterson gets older, the Vikings would need to decrease his workload. The idea of paying $12 million a season to a running back splitting carries would be idiotic.

If Peterson’s workload has to drop, so to does his value, making the mutual split even more likely to happen.

Football contracts ain't shyt. They promise you some money then cut your ass later. I understand why they want to cut him he can't win anything by himself but dude pretty much wasted like 3 years there.

Exactly.

Paying him that much money has gotten the Vikings where again?

They need help defensively, and that money that Peterson is making can afford them 2 quality defensive players and another good young back. Plus they can use a 1st or 2nd round pick on another running back and have 2 quality running backs splitting carries

I don't understand what is so hard to understand.

He's approaching 30 (:wow: I remember when he was a freshman beastin in college :to:) and the highest paid at his postion, of course the team is going to look to move him while he still has value before the bottom falls out. He ain't the first or the last. Better players than him have suffered the same fate.

Gamble on your franchise with a rookie QB and a average defense, Vikings......

That fan base will riot if they trade Purple Jesus.... They better let him retire a Viking....

I'm being serious....

Notable players who didn't retire with the squad they put up their HOF credentials with:

Joe Montana
Jerry Rice
Emmitt Smith
Brett Favre
Tony Gonzalez
Randy Moss
Ladanian

and many more. NFL is the least sentimental of all the sports.

Rumors from anonymous AFC scout :dead:

Only way AD gets traded is if he asks for it. Capwise he isn't hurting us one bit...

This time every year there are AD trade rumors though...

But you don't have a stadium built and no superstar to usher in that new stadium...

With multiple backs that don't make what AD makes combined. He's the last guy to feel sorry for, he's made his money. HOFers get cut or traded all the time. Once you are no longer of service AND/OR your pay surpasses your value you will be discarded regardless what position you play.
