I agree.personally I wouldn't have him going that far.

There is something to be said for a new rapper who's attempting to be lyrical going platinum in this sales climate

kendrick's success is a fraudulent product of interscope.

and hes still a failure seeing that he still has yet to get over with the public.

Come on man..
Coolio gets in the tournament but nOt prodigy?

coolio deserves his spot.

prodigy's solo run was :flabbynsick: at the rate we're going tho, theres a slim chance that he can get in as a wildcard. very slim tho.

Fresh Prince had some hits with Summertime prolly the best but if not for his tv show who knows where he would be right now. His whole style and image was on that late 80s early 90s Kid N Play bullshyt

:whoa:

you mean IF IT WASNT FOR RAP, fresh prince & kid n play wouldnt have transitioned into hollywood. they were HUGE before film.

and what do you mean their style & image were bullchit? THEY WERE HIP-HOP.

he had rep as a battle emcee before he got signed/blew up though, son was not to be messed with/wasn't soft at all

you could tell in his earlier work a switch could be flipped even, Kid N Play and co. would've got wrecked :whew:

dont sleep on kid n play either.

kid wouldve caught wreck on the mic too.
and play wouldve caught wreck on somebodys face. OUCH.

Coolio had a monster single in 95 and a cool single and had done nothing since.

Prodigy is at least relevant.

:leon:

talk about downplaying.

coolio was HUGE from '94-97 breh. he was the marquee safe go-to name of the entire mid-90s.

nobody cared about prodigy's solo career but mobb deep fans of the '90s.

Don't get me wrong breh they were all nice on the mic but their image didn't hold up well. That whole high top fade with those baggy ass colorful shirts tucked into jeans look didn't last too long. That whole New Jack Swing Era look. Everybody who had that image fell off hard cuz gangsta rap put them outta commission. Hollywood saved them

I laughed when I saw Coolio vs Master P but it was a easy decision. Master P might've had the first real brand out the south

What am I forgetting besides gangstas paradise and fantastic voyage..

For the sake of argument I'll give you him up until 2000.

That's fifteen years with nothing besides avh1 show

you mean the look that everybody is jockin now?

you gotta remember, back when rap was legit, things were different. its not like now where you have the same 10 rappers dropping the same ole forgettable music and still being "on top" for years & years cuz of politics.

everybody had their time. a good run is 3-5 years. these guys had that and had already peaked before the "gangsta rap takeover". they wouldve phased out around the time they did anyway. it doesnt take away from their legacy. shoot, kid n play were like 30 when they dropped their last efforts while nas, bone, mobb, etc were coming thru and still in their teens.

only nod i can give you is that i dont think will smith wouldve came back and sold all those records in the late '90s if he wasnt WILL SMITH. i'll give you that one.

Will Smith and Kid N Play were the exception. Too many fell off like Father MC, Def Jeff, Redhead Kingpin, and Kwame. Even tho a lot of people don't kno Kwame wrote Poison but thought it would be wack so he never put his name on anything.

Those Poison royalties are prolly :whew:
