youre forgetting that coolio was middle america's rap darling thru '94-96. he had hits all thru & thru that era. and he had a hit or two on his way out in '97 and almost blew up the 40 theivz.. dude even brought lakeside back!! nicca was low-key the musical face of nickelodeon too.
after hammer & before will "jiggy" smith, THERE WAS COOLIO. he was the guy that filled that void those years.

you judge rappers on their prime years. who cares what they did afterwards?
thats like saying kevin garnett isnt a 1st ballot hall of famer because of this forgettable run hes having with the nets on his way out.
ice t was not in a play-in game. hes in an overtime round because his battles were ties.as for the bolded, so what if he was hot for a few years? you can say that about just about every rap legend period.

White America loved Coolio in the mid 90s. They loved his hair too lol. I used to work with this corny ass whiteboy at a restaurant back in the day and every time a whiteboy came in with his pants sagging or something he would start singing Gangstas Paradise word for word. He knew every word to it and said it was one of his favorite songs ever

Will Smith and Kid N Play were the exception. Too many fell off like Father MC, Def Jeff, Redhead Kingpin, and Kwame. Even tho a lot of people don't kno Kwame wrote Poison but thought it would be wack so he never put his name on anything.
Those Poison royalties are prolly
they werent exceptions. THEYRE LEGENDS. thats what seperates them from the other guys you mentioned(ehh, maybe you can make a case for kwame. i dont know.)
its the same way theres hundreds of gangsta rappers that nobody talks about anymore either.
i didnt know kwame wrote poison. i know he stuck around as a producer tho. he even produced "on fire" by banks, even tho they stuck him with co-producer credits, its obvious that its his beat.
redhead kingpin & def jef are/were producers too. def jef produced the beat for "the game" sitcom. word to tasha mack. how about those royalties?
