i feel like wales definitive style is his songs for the females

i dunno if thats a sound, but every time wale drops, he seems to do ok cuz he got that lady centric single that the natural sisters get down with

sound wise tho, i feel you, but i feel like his style is very well solified, its just in an area that we arent the demographic for

Exactly.....Wale's career is really the definitive power of having a hit like Lotus Flower Bomb....that song is a classic and Wale will always have a career because of it:manny:

Logic :mjlol:

Whatever you say bruh :camby:

a response like this leads me to believe you didnt read brehs post, or you did and realized you didnt know what else to say back, cuz breh wasnt arguing for logic at all, he was using him as an example:yeshrug:

but no shots tho, cuz tbh this has been one of the best MUSIC discussion threads on the booth in awhile, and its the kind of thread our 2x woat poster king wishes he could create.

for the most part everyone stayed on topic and contributed dope information :salute:

to keep it going, i rememebr him performing my PYT last july at wolftrap and i was thinking 'oh wale got a new album coming soon':ooh:

i do agree his album rollout process is kinda jacked

i just wonder if all this is because wale gives too much deference in listening to the people on his team, or too little?

or maybe that aint the issue at all

wale's career is an enigma wrapped in a puzzle, dipped in mumbo sauce

i do wish wale and tone p would lock down in the studio and just make rap-go-go bangers for like 6 months straight

and be in dc while they create, and soak up the vibe and properly present our wave to the masses

i know when i leave DC one of the things im going to miss most is pulling up to a red light and hearing go go crankin out of the car next to me :ahh:

Yes, corny ass Logic's last album did better than Wale's last album. And he's from Maryland... which was a part of your criteria

I honestly think his problem with releasing his albums is that he tries to duck other artists releases so he can get the most shine/discussion for them.

I really think he tries to pick out a release window where there's no other big artist dropping so his music can be heard and speak for itself.

The Album About Nothing should have came out at the end of 2014. There really wasn't anything else out in Q4 of that year until J. Cole dropped FHD... Wale should have just dropped his album around then in my opinion. He held back, and put out Festivus instead (which is a dope mixtape) and announced that TAAN was dropping sometime in March... Big Sean and Drake dropped their projects in Feb (remember... Drake's IYRTITL was a surprise release, he just dropped it). He probably felt like he got out of the heavy hitters way and that when he released his album it would be the biggest release from his peer group out around that time....

NOPE, then out of no where Kendrick put out To Pimp A Butterfly a few weeks before Wale's release date. And if you remember when that dropped that's all everybody was talking about and analyzing for weeks/months when it came out.

So when you really think about it... Wale pushed the album back multiple times trying to avoid competition, only to eventually have his album be completely overlooked damn near because all of the talk around Kendrick's release the same month.

It was was a real bad failure IMO. I was hype for TAAN, because I was a huge fan of the mixtapes.

That album is arguably better than Cole's FHD, and he would have benefited much more from Cole FHD vs Wale TAAN discussions... opposed to when he drops the album after everybody has FHD, Sean's Dark Sky Paradise, Drake's album, and then Kendrick's album.

Just a bad business decision. I see what he was trying to do, but when Kendrick dropped his shyt like he did, it completely fukked up a lot of the hype that Wale wanted for his release.

I don't even know why nikkas bringing up Logic in this thread.
Breh has had no type of impact in the DMV for shyt
The comparisson is flawd cuz based off Wale subject matter, they appealing to different demographics
Logic sells well with white ppl and gamerz, thats it. Lets get Logic to make some pro-black songs and see where his support goes lol

Wale.

He writes the songs. They aren't hits without his pen
Bad was Tiara Thomas's song. He heard it online, brought her in and basically featured her on her song.

True, I'm not doubting he penned the other songs, my point is... the songs are remembered because of the singers performance on the chorus. Not because of Wale verses. Let's keep it 100.

I'm a fan of lyrics so it's not really the Hook that gets me.

For instance, Nas is my favorite rapper of all time, but You Owe Me is garbage. And that's because Nas scaled his shyt wayyyyyyyyyy back. Catchy hook or not that song is a bad look.

Wale's pen game NEVER sounds dumbed down on a female song. Matter of fact I feel like he steps it up tremendously. The hooks in my opinion are the icing on the cake.

Black Gold is :wow:

I wanna see Wale' win. I don't even think he's "aimless" persay. I think he forces things too much. Shouldn't be no way in HELL an artist of his stature is collabing with G-Easy:scusthov:

In The Clouds
Big Sean has surpassed Wale in terms of relevance and popularity. Big Sean has gotten better over time. I can't say the same for Wale...The Gifted dropped in 2013... Dark Sky Paradise is better than TAAN, he's also put out TWENTY88 with Jhene, and I Decided is also a damn good album. And he's done this by finding his lane, AND making hit records and still serving his core fanbase. Am I lying?

Sean was a slow starter, but he's still younger than all the dudes he broke in the game with. But he's definitely figured out what's working for him, and when he makes a hit, it's not like he's reaching for one like I'm seeing from Wale now.
@Versa is also just wrong. Dark Sky Paradise went platinum and produced two top 40 hits. It was way bigger than TAAN and I liked that album. But besides that. when you factor in how many more singles Sean has sold than Wale, it's very clear who is bigger. Let me put it like this, there's a reason J. Cole brought Sean on tour with him and not Wale.
