One of the Kroger stores in my city closed down just because of that. No security late at night, Only a handful of workers manning that big ass store at night, etc.You aint lying. I was talking to a lady at wally world the other day and she was telling me how much stealing happens there. All day and night.
Walmart lost me when they no longer had 24/7 hour storesthere was nothing like going to Walmart at 2am when nobody was in there, when they started cutting store hours way before the pandemic, they lost most of business. I'm not trying to be in there during regular hours.
I worked at Walmart in Normal, IL.I don’t think it’s the sole reason, but big box stores have a lot of internal theft, so with the shoplifting, I can believe they are losing profits.
Some could, just not at the level of a Walmart/Amazon. Kroger and Publix comes to mind right away. I have no problem with the mom and pop small business, but as humanity evolved in america, we've become extremely gluttonous consumers. To the point where the mom and pop stores would've come to a end anyway. If it wasn't Walmart, it would've been something else.
Mainly white drug addicts. I live in Portland and have been to that store on 82nd SE that's cited in the article. That is the only big Walmart I've been to that DOES NOT sell produce, which is beyond me. But yeah, mainly white drug addicts.So....basically White people are stealing alot? Cause who lives in Portland?
So there's new opportunities now. Didn't say I was confused brother just amused. Keep up now.
Except you're comparing regional grocery stores to a multinational big box all-in-one retailer. Kroger and Publix would and will never be able to reasonably "compete" with a conglomerate like Walmart for the simple fact that they're not selling TVs, baby clothes, gaming consoles and furniture alongside meat, dairy and other household essentials.
You say "if it wasn't Walmart, it would've been something else" with the same demeanor of scammers and thieves who like to pretend that if it wasn't them being shisty it would've always been someone else when that's obviously not the case.
It has nothing to do with 'humanity' or society or people being "glutunous consumers". That's just coporate blame-shifting bullshyt.
Yessir. Natural evolution of the convenience curve. We want it cheaper faster. Small stores cannot satisfy our gross consumerism. That's reality. Another big box one stop shop will take the reigns .. convenience is killing modern humans. In reality Amazon already does everything cheaper and faster than Walmart. Also has worse employment opportunities. But that convenience tho.
Walmart claims to have lost $3 Billion to theft in 2022, but generated $573 Billion in revenue the same year. C'mon folks don't let these corporate shills fool you into pointing fingers at each other. Walmart is simply cutting costs because they are anticipating a recession. Notice Walmart hasn't said any of these stores are running at a loss. No one ever asks Walmart if that $3 Billion from theft is potential revenue, or actual cost of goods, but from my time in retail, corporations calculate Shrink (The term used for stolen merch) based on a products retail price, not its wholesale price. See, if you sell socks for $10/pair, but only pay $4/pr for them wholesale. When someone steals a pair, you are only out of $4, not $10. Walmart's annual profit for 2022 was $143 billion. So if Walmart has an average profit margin of 25%, that means their actual loss from theft in 2022 was only $2.25 Billion. That's a loss of 1.57%, which fits the national retail average loss from theft (1.44-2.0%). So sad how Americans are propagandized to so regularly.
This is how they think though. They see trends and follow them to a profit. Im not here to debate right vs wrong, im just informing you on whats happening out here. Don't take your frustrations out here, just burn down a store that interrupted a mom and pop store. You saying these things to me because you can't vent to the real people who make you mad. Y'all really need to grow up.

This is what happens when Walmart doesn’t invest more into security and depend on local policeThis is what happens when cities let people walk in stores, steal, and have no consequences.
No we’re notAnticipating a recession? We're in one already.
