Really ? I'm not referring to just renting old players, which they did do, but also signing bad contracts. For example:
Ladanian Tomlinson, Jason Taylor, Brett Favre, Plaxico Burress= Renting Old Players
Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards, Lito Sheppard (signed to 4yr 30 mill ext)= Bad Rentals that hurt them in the long run
Nick Mangold to 7 year contract ext & Revis to 4 yr ext = Bad Extensions (Mangold to biggest center contract ever, those never work & Revis Traded after signing ext)
Kerry Rhodes, Leon Washington, Johnathan Vilma = Bad trades out
Bart Scott = Bad FA Signing (6 years, 43 mill). Hurt long the flexibility when cut. Could have just kept Vilma at cheaper $....
Jerricho Cotchery, Damien Woody, Kris Jenkins = Cap Casualties
Top 3 2009 Drafts = Mark Sanchez QB, Shonne Green RB (Drafted QB that hurt team in long run w/ traded draft picks & signed to huge 5 yr ext, then subsequently cut 2 years after)
Top 3 2010 Drafts = Kyle Wilson CB, Vlad Ducasse OT, Joe McKnight (Never contributed)
Top 3 2011 Drafts = Muhammad Wilkerson (Great pick), Kenrick Ellis
Antonio Cromartie = Great Trade for long & short term
Muhammad Wilkerson = only good pick out of 8 picks in 1st three rounds in 3 draft classes
Long story short. Made AFC championship twice... Haven't been to playoffs since. Bad trades, bad contracts, bad extensions, inability to resign contributors & leaders & bad drafts = Franchise in shambles.
Lays it pretty bare
