Power to him it's his choice but low key he just messed up a bunch of young guy's money in the league by doing this at this level

That just stupid he's not messing up any young guys money if anything somebody is going to get that max deal he is suppose to get from the other team. Teams wont stop offering max $$ just because a player opted to take less $, Tim and Dirk had been doing it for years and guys are still getting max deals.

On the face of it this doesn’t seem like a big deal, but it is. Not just because one star athlete taking less gives the players less leverage in the next CBA negotiation, but mainly because this forces other star players to have to consider taking pay cuts if they really want to build a team to compete with this Warriors team.

Sure these dudes are having fun and saying fukk it we make plenty of money, and that’s true, but they’re also handing power back to the owners and the league, and simultaneously giving them back a larger piece of the pie that players before them fought so hard to secure.

It’s some straight up selfish clown shyt. They’re setting the players back a decade or more with this. They’re benefitting personally from these last two cap hikes but by not pressing the issue they’re fukking over the next generation of players. It’s typical Warriors soft spoiled shyt.
:picard:

Cotdamn this Warriors squad brings out the feelings in y'all. nikkas gonna be mad for the whole damn summer too.

And then moves like this from Klay and the Warriors in general spits in the face of all that progress
Klay taking this deal prevents who from making money?

Who wasn't able to get paid because Dirk took a pay cut?

Who got the :umad:from GMs because Duncan took a pay cut?

We complain/trash teams for overpaying players every year, but somehow, all of a sudden they're gonna stop cutting checks because Klay took a pay cut?

The concern for the Players Association is a legitimate one.
While not exactly the same situation, the failed A-Rod trade to Boston brought up similar issues in MLB.

I think players should always test the market so that the market always is forced to dictate current values for players at various levels
That being said this is just another example of a player controlling their destiny imo, it's just that the choice the player is making I don't really agree with though I can respect it I guess
I could understand if he didn't already win multiple rings, but he has and he is clearly not the 1st or even the 2nd option on the warriors so it's kind of disheartening to see that he does not have the belief in his talent or drive to be alpha to pursue that opportunity of being the #1 option some where else

Breh porter got the max avg 11 pts a game. After that there isn't shyt you can tell me regarding folks getting stupid contracts. Let it go dog its over.

Man... the fact that you think race doesn't play a part in sports as far as contractual negotiations are concern is telling.... either you're oblivious to it, or haven't been watching sports for a while.... the NFL is notorious for it...

Chandler Parsons got a big deal for being tall, white, and handsome

He took a $2 million paycut for 1 season and then he opted out before the big paycut would come in.
They all signed six year deals with opt outs after the fourth year. That means they were paid less than the max for four years. How is that not a pay cut?

https://nba.nbcsports.com/2010/07/1...hris-bosh-each-leave-15-million-on-the-table/
But they will be leaving $15 million on the table to play together. In the first year of their contract, Bosh and James will be making $14.5 million (Wade with $14 flat), nearly two million less than what they would have made base-year at the max (in a non-sign-and-trade).
They can all do this whole thing again in 2014 after the fourth year.

The contract allows for opt-outs for the fifth and sixth year of the deal.
Even the article you quoted says, right after the last paragraph you quoted
Leaving the money on the table? It is staggering. You have to understand, multiple sources I spoke to within agencies and the league told me there was no way they would leave the money on the table. None. That’s not how this works. But that’s what they did.

https://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/06/lebron-james-opt-out-contract-heat-nba
James took a pay cut to come to Miami in the first place, and has been playing under market value for years. By opting out, James can sign a deal that more accurately reflects his worth. If James would have stuck with his original contract, he would have made $20.5 million in 2014-15. Now he can sign a 5-year max contract with the Heat worth $130 million (~$26 million per year, depending on how it’s structured) or a four-year deal worth up to $96 million elsewhere (~$24 million).

Bosh also is earning $17.5 million this season, while Wade is making $17.1 million. Had they taken max deals in 2010, each could have made just under $20 million this season. It would have cost the Heat an additional $8 million in luxury taxes, roughly $12 million next season, and they might not have been able to add players Udonis Haslem, Mike Miller, Shane Battier and Ray Allen to the roster.

"I have not had a full max deal yet in my career — that's a story untold," James told ESPN on Friday. "I don't get (credit) for it. That doesn't matter to me; playing the game is what matters to me. Financially, I'll sacrifice for the team. It shows for some of the top guys, it isn't all about money. That's the genuine side of this, it's about winning. I understand that.

Go ask them

One of the counter arguments is why wuold Klay want the "pressure" as if anyone in this forum actually knows Klay to speak on his behalf.... shyt is a projection.... not a counterpoint.... cause using that logic, any borderline superstar with a Max deal and playing outside of the Bay is stressed out and has low quality of life.... which is absolutely ridiculous

They doing what MJ Bulls was supposed to do: Ride the wave until it’s over and not let some stupid front office exec break up tha time while it’s still dominating and winning.

Jerry Krause was a idiot. He tore a dynasty apart for no good reason. He really thought Mike was gonna be cool with him getting rid of Phil n hiring TIM FLOYD.

:scust:

I’m all for Steph n Co keeping their thing going as long as they can.
