that thread might've been on SOHH.

regardless, theres been a huge push to make UGK into some goats, and its been going on since the Houston rappers had their run in the mid-00s.

I don't see how you have managed to ignore this for well over a decade, but youre up in arms over someone calling the war report a classic.:mindblown:

East Side!
Anyone remember the original ads in the sourcemagazine that they did for the Channel 10 album that was supposed to drop prior to Capone getting locked? (Like 98) It had the same cover as war report but i think the logo was in blue letters instead of red and said Channel 10 instead if war report...

I'm a big fan of N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN's Drink Champs Podcast..
I always hear artists praising the War Report album on the Podcast, always giving props to NORE saying it was a classic when it Dropped..
Is this true?
Me being from the South, I never heard much about it

It was an Instant Classic in NY, especially with L.A. L.A. Remix getting a lot of run from Funk Master Flex back then.

We got a cuban disguise that make us look like Jesus......

Even the leftover tracks are CRACK

A lot of so called "classics" from the east are just regional albums that new York bias make people believe were bigger and better than they were.

So is this the crux of the argument?

Lol

I think war report is not only a classic but one of the greatest rap albums ever

But I agree that it's a regional thing, it's definitely not a consensus since most rap fans haven't even heard of it and barely know who nore is, and if they do know nore it's not from war report

Calling war report an east coast/new York classic is fairly accurate imo

translatation,it flopped, you had to be from lefrak to care, since it's from the east and we like it,let's hold it up and act like it's a classic
Foh :what:everything's bout sales to u like the money went into ur pocket or u got the plaque urself.
Keep playing urself.:aicmon:
So the war report got the same rating as doggysyle and MATW?

lmao rofl lol
The bias man

The only thing I agree with is this there's no way war reports fukking with doggystyle. Doggystyle is in my top 3 albums. That doesn't change the fact war report is a great album. (Nores one and only good album) & doggystyle was changed to 5 mics anyway :aicmon:

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
I dont know how old YOU THINK I AM but i'm in my late 30's and dont need a history lesson about 1997. I was a grown man back then.

What makes CNN an underground album? cause it didnt sale?
Not saying it was a pop album. But it's hard for me to accept that excuse if it was on the majors and had videos on BET

Wu had buzz, method was a star. OB4cl flopped.

We gotta keep things in perspective and treat albums equal.
If something wasnt popping in my region AND it didnt sell,it makes sense that i believe it wasnt popping or just a regional classic.
That's how the east treats all albums that werent big on the east. so lets go with that theme
You seem to have a beef with east coast music.

You also seem to treat sales as the only thing that can seem classics

Both are dumb notions. And I believe me and you had this argument before on the same shyt

I don't care about sales. When most people speak of classic music, they don't care about sales either. They care about THE MUSIC.

There is nobody in their right mind that would say OBFCL is a flop. Nobody. They didn't expect it to do 4 million. It was put out on loud, which is not one of the 4 majors. It was Raekwon. Not a pretty boy with dance tracks and classic samples of already hits. It was for the streets. And to this day, you won't find a rapper alive to say it wasn't a classic or great music. Therefore it is a classic. Classic what? Classic music

CNN was no different. It was released on penalty. Not a major. It had ZERO radio singles. No dance shyt. No hit record samples. No song for the club. Or for the bytches. No famous r&b artist on the hook. No famous rappers on the features. Just banger after banger of great music.

Still it went #4 on the r&b charts and #3 on the rap charts and #21 in the entire country. From 2 completely unknown artists, one who was in jail.

They were not expecting to sell 1 million or 500k. They exceeded expectations as nore and others have said. That's why he got a solo deal. That's why Rae got 3-4 albums to drop after the first. Cause everyone isn't expected to do snoop numbers and puffy numbers. Everyone isn't given that budget, so they don't have to worry about selling that much to earn it back. Everyone isn't even pressing up 1 million copies to even go plat.

A flop is perspective. If jay comes out and does 1 million, it'd be a flop. Cause he's expected to go multi every time at this point. If joe budden does 150k first week it's fukking amazing cause his last 8 shyts did like 50.

So forget that we all been saying it was an east coast classic for 2 days. I don't know why you keep arguing what we agree on. But no. All albums are NOT treated the same. They don't all get the same budget, rollout, the star is different, publicity campaign is different. No they don't get measured the same

A nikka with a 100k album budget on his first album should not be getting judged on the same scale as Kanye west on his 8th

CNN on a debut on penalty records with no radio singles should not be compared with snoop Dogg on death row with dr dre and hit samples. Raekwon with ice cream on loud should not be compared to method man with his own single on 36 chambers and another single with Mary j blidge on def jam.

The War Report is classic not old enough to speak on how it was received upon drop but it's clearly one of the best street albums out NY. Dudes argue too much about regional 90's B.S. thank god that shyt doesn't matter anymore.

One of my favorite verses of All-Time, N.O.R.E. on Channel 10

I was looking to cop the War Report hoodies Supreme put out but them prices :picard:

We wouldn't be discussing this album if it was local:aicmon:

ppl who truly listen to hip hop from all different cities/ parts of the world enjoy these ny albums all that matters is the music :francis:
