The endorsements have a direct correlation to Jeter playing in New York. If Jeter came up through the Kansas City system nobody would think twice about him. He'd make the hall of fame because he's hit a couple "magic numbers" that baseball heads hang on to and you obviously have to take into consideration his position but he would be Joey Votto status in terms of popularity.

Griffey was going to be a star anywhere.

numbers wise yeah of course....but in terms of his legacy as an icon...its more 90's nostalgia than anything else, which is rampant around here.

Jeter does laps around Griffey popularity wise.

Not even Griffey would be a star in Kansas City. :comeon:

Jeter is and was always more popular than Griff

i dont buy it. as a born NYer in NJ, he is obviously the biggest star of the past 20 years in my area, but i just don't believe kids around the country idolize him the way we did back in the day with Griffey. You can throw all the endorsement stats at me, i still wont believe it.

What nostalgia? Griffey was a national star playing in Seattle. You're lost.

Jeter would be Joey Votto or Todd Helton or Joe Mauer in terms of popularity if it were not for the New York aspect. He's not a national star based on his on-field play.

Griffey could have played anywhere and he would still be Griffey.

i also think Jeter being such a winner hurts him in this aspect. there are tons of people who hate him just for the fact he's the face of the Yankees. No one ever openly rooted against Griffey, and if they did, fukk em.

Wow what do you know....a NY athlete playing for the Yankees in this era made more endorsement money than Ken Griffey Jr. who played in Seattle and was in his prime in the 90s? Ya dont say :rudy:

That dont mean shyt to me in terms of popularity....Jeter in this area is among the most popular ever but I refuse to believe he is as popular in seattle as griffey was here in the 90s.

If Griffey were a Yankee he wouldnt even be bigger than Jeter.

Show me all the other Yankees of the past 30 years with even 1/3rd the national popularity and endorsement money Jeter has. I'll wait.

That's because New Yorkers are trendhopping cornballs. Seattle residents don't have time for that shyt. :manny:

Jeets is internationally known, b. Ken Griffey is a nikka who was great at baseball. Jeets is a celebrity. I'm not about to base popularity and cultural impact on "mad nikkas used to imitate his swing and loved his video game." Mad nikkas used to love Rod Strickland too. :youngsabo:
