"Watching your tone" as a black man at work Unappreciation Thread

This is directly related to the body language that has been given to me at work when I talk to certain individuals. None of them are black. Neither was the woman in my personal life

I can't even vent on a "black forum" about a black issue without nikkas trolling and picking me apart as a person. When they haven't even met me

Facebook groups might be the way for me fr. nikkas look to argue in constructive threads like this. It's nuts

That prejudgment is what I go through at work. Regardless, I don't have issues with anyone there. I'm one of the best employees there. But I'm not a punk.

I speak up for myself when I need to. I'm assertive but respectful. I'm not passive aggressive like some of the men there and alot of nikkas on here are. The type of black men with alot going for them and exude that aura are the ones that intimidate coworkers. Especially non-black ones. Can't let them get to you

You have every right to vent, but the corporate setting is not made for black men. Even straight white men are struggling outside of the small handful of them in management positions. That is why most college grads and new hires for the past 8 years mostly been women.

I'm one of the positive influences there. And I've been told this many times. But when there are adverse situations that happen involving me, I always have to be careful how I tell my side of the story.

Like workers comp bullshyt after getting hurt on the job due to the negligence of the scheduler. Dumb ass high school esque rumors about me and women there. Just dumb shyt in general. Everything I say about it all is true and genuine. But with some of these coworkers, the tone makes them visibly uncomfortable

And this would not be the case if I wasn't black

Everybody else gets joked at, made fun of, faces made, nicknamed, etc. If I had more estrogen it'd be some neck rolls in there too.


And because it's almost all vanilla, I dare these cacs to say some -ass shyt so they can get reported and/or stole on.

Of course I read. I'm not a supervisor. I'm in a lower position but I'm definitely getting another job at a higher position somewhere once I get my Masters degree

It happens but you gotta stand up for yourself regardless just don’t max out on anybody if a situation occurs and mind your business. I work in government contracting out in DC with a lot of older white people. When I first started working there this old lady tried to tell me I messed up while I was setting up an award in the system. I apologized but told her she gave me the wrong instruction which she did. The next day I get called into the office and my manager told me I have to watch how I talk to people. I brushed it off but remembered to keep it real brief with her moving forward. We had a director at one point that everybody black in the office used to call Mr. Clark. He used to yell at anybody in the office when they fukked up didn’t matter who you were. You could hear him leaning on people all the way down the hall. He had old white women legit crying when they left his office. I had never seen that in a work setting before because most of upper management was white. Unfortunately, they fired him after a year or two. Long story short, be yourself just remember you’re at work and keep it professional and you should be good.

Until you get both of those, you're just going to have to LISTEN to those above you. After you get those, you'll STILL have people above you. The 'vibe' I'm getting thus far is that you're dissatisfied with the position.

Ohhh. I read self-help books mostly. Other than that it's books related to psychology, sports, black history and black culture.

I'm not dissatisfied with my position. I'm dissatisfied with the toxic culture at the workplace

I love my job. I hate the politics. Especially the racial shyt

No one did. Really, and imma keep this short and succinct because yall are immature. A woman in my personal life told me to "stop yelling" when I was talking to her about continuously interrupting me before I could finish sentences

She did this multiple times in our convo. Interrupted me about dumb shyt. I basically told her to let me talk

That's the only person who's ever told me that. I had to ask my manager one day about if my tone was unpolite or anything. She said no. But she's hispanic and cool so it is what it is

I'm big, black, assertive, articulate, and scary. Not only as a man. But a black man. White men can get away with much worse. And not even have to have self-awareness about it. Not even think about it
