I wouldn't "replace" German, as much as I would use him as that 5th starter/opening role, where he'd just go through the lineup one time. He has gruly overachieved this season. We can build on his successes and work on his weaknesses (2nd & 3rd times through the lineup).

It would be great for Severino to come back and pick back up where he left, minus tipping pitches. But that's a lot to ask. Same with Monty, Loisiaga and Betances.

Honestly, if Deivi Garcia looks competent in AAA (I honestly haven't been paying attention recently), maybe get him a spot start or two in August in MLB, before he hits his innings limit. We do have to makeup 4 games, so the opportunities will be there. It wouldn't hurt. It'll give us a true look at how he handles it and performs.

But IF we can't make a deal for a significant SP rotation upgrade, then we'd have to utilize the opener philosophy. It would be strange, but we have enough quality arms to make it work. But even that would depend on starters 1-4 being able to give 5-6 quality innings regularly. I would hope that Boone would have the sense to limit Betances, Britton, Ottovino and Chapman though.

That’s what I basically implied already breh

It makes no sense how we didn't go hard after Keuchel if the FO was gonna be so cheap with their assets. Maybe we'll still get someone decent but if we don't it's gonna look like a colossal mistake that we didn't strike on someone like Keuchel who would have added depth we really need. It's just crazy that so much of our pitching problems comes down to the FO being too cheap to truly go after guys. This team is making money over fist so what the hell are they being cheap about. It's the fukking Yankees.

Because Keuchel doesn't solve our problems. He'd just be another arm. There's a reason why a team that's still looking for pitching (Houston) who had him didn't want him back. Some of y'all I'm convinced woulda paid him $100 mil immediately. He's not the difference between us winning it all or not, unless y'all think Atlanta got the NL locked up.

In hindsight, Happ wound up costing 3x as much as Keuchel. So it's not a financial thing there. it's poor evaluation brought by a stretch that was very very good but unsustainable. Happ shouldn't have been brought back at any price.

I'm not talking about giving Keuchel a 100 mil contract. And I never made that argument. I wanted the Yankees to go after Corbin in the offseason but THIS year he got a one year contract from the braves. With our lack of pitching depth that should have been a no brainer to be the top team pursuing him..
