If you're a successful brother or have good experience or knowledge somewhere go do it.

Just start with 1 young breh that you can see the potential in, and when his path is clear and strong you can take a step back and find the next. I've got two young brehs from Philly to Harvard rn and I couldn't be more proud of them :salute: their lives are set.

If everyone helped elevate just one kid you'd be amazed by how fast our people would move on up

Not enough Black men can't undo the damage single moms have done to their kids

Somebody gonna post that bullshyt cdc statistic

exactly the thing is the single moms get off scotch free while the men who did what they had to do have to deal with the products of the single mothers. Why is the burden on us, and we end up taking time away from our own kids.

No it's not necessary if you have a real man as a father.
completely inaccurate and you don't know what you're talking about. Mentors are incredibly valuable in academia, the job market, etc. they're unbelievably powerful resources to just say "you have a good dad, you don't need one." Thinking like that will keep us behind. Take every advantage you can get. White people and asians go hard on the mentor route even though they have fathers in their lives, and it pays off.

Above the fray.
All this talk about racism in schools and society. This recent conversation about black men needing therapy and our mistrust of people(even bw) who can't necessarily identify with our struggles completely. It's the case everywhere in society. Where we go to school, work, general media. The portrayal of black men is the worst. And the statistics bare that out as far as educational attainment and financially, we are the worst off.

But enough studies have been done. More black male teachers leads to positive gains for young black men. And I'm sure it's the same in the workplace where it can get lonely.

Mentoring. It only takes a couple hours a month. Organizations like Big Brother, Big Sister don't require that much, but we're even underrepresented there. As a black man whose worked for years with youth in the foster care system...we're terribly underrepresented there and they're always looking for black men to help these black youths.

We can connect with them uniquely. And help the youngins navigate their feelings and help them become as successful or even more than we are.

Think about it. If you actually care about the state of black men in america.
Mentor children in your immediate circle, donate money to existing organizations that serve to help develop boys through academics, the arts, social skills, etc.

My little cousins went through a Rites of Passage program, and we supported them the entire way....and I was doing the most cheering them, and the other young men, at the ceremony.

All we got is us. That's why I put the clowns here on ignore. They are dead weight.

You need one in your work field sure. Anything else is dumb. What would you need a mentor for besides to put you on to further your career?

Mentoring is glorified babysitting.

Young boys wouldn't need them if they had present fathers.

Mentoring isn't that effective without someone at home reinforcing what the mentor is trying to impart in that child. You pour into that child and send them home to a bullshyt environment isn't working to well.
