Mentoring isn't that effective without someone at home reinforcing what the mentor is trying to impart in that child. You pour into that child and send them home to a bullshyt environment isn't working to well.

I agree.

Look at the film Charm City kings. You had some dude trying to mentor the kid but it wasn't really reaching him. And he had no father in the home.

The father is supposed to have the child's best interest in mind when it comes to all aspects of his development. Not some strange man.

Statistics are misleading?

1st of all, the article cited the census as a source of this statics. When statics show black people dont wholly participate in the census.
White people (the author of that article) need to mind their business when it comes to black issues. Seriously.

Thank god for my dad being in my life as well as one of my uncles

We need for one.. for women to pick the right man to have a kid with and secondly for men to be men and be responsible for raising their sons

Starts with these goofy ass parents who still want to be teenagers and want to suck and fukk , but don’t want to raised their child

Mentor children in your immediate circle, donate money to existing organizations that serve to help develop boys through academics, the arts, social skills, etc.

My little cousins went through a Rites of Passage program, and we supported them the entire way....and I was doing the most cheering them, and the other young men, at the ceremony.

All we got is us. That's why I put the clowns here on ignore. They are dead weight.
You're completely right. These dudes just want to talk but not actually provide any tangible solutions or at the very least, give back to their community.

Unless the mother was raped, absolutely not. You laid down with a nikka and let him bust off in you raw without knowing his character.
We have to many kids that were not raised right having kids & repeating the cycle with no good men around

Black men don't mentor black boys because they feel like they are helping single moms. Future generations of black men will be in the exact same situation as black men today due to this thought process. Black men are cutting their noses off to spite their face due to having a individualistic mindset. This will always cause the group to suffer. And by group I mean black men.

All this talk about racism in schools and society. This recent conversation about black men needing therapy and our mistrust of people(even bw) who can't necessarily identify with our struggles completely. It's the case everywhere in society. Where we go to school, work, general media. The portrayal of black men is the worst. And the statistics bare that out as far as educational attainment and financially, we are the worst off.

But enough studies have been done. More black male teachers leads to positive gains for young black men. And I'm sure it's the same in the workplace where it can get lonely.

Mentoring. It only takes a couple hours a month. Organizations like Big Brother, Big Sister don't require that much, but we're even underrepresented there. As a black man whose worked for years with youth in the foster care system...we're terribly underrepresented there and they're always looking for black men to help these black youths.

We can connect with them uniquely. And help the youngins navigate their feelings and help them become as successful or even more than we are.

Think about it. If you actually care about the state of black men in america.

I agree but it should be scalable if it’s going to do any measurable good.

An online platform that matches you with a virtual mentor I think would be super powerful

mama shoulda practiced discernment

It goes both ways but the onus falls mostly on the man.

The man's supposed to be the leader, provider, primary thinker, etc. The selection process on his part is supposed to be on a higher caliber than an emotional women's. Especially considering the gender dynamics of America and various pitfalls for men.

If a woman is largely out of line and out of pocket, it's usually a reflection of the initial lack of male leadership and instruction and discernment on her father's part.

Post has some truth to it, yet I always agree with the detractors.

Nobody is asking us to babysit the kid. Give out your # and let him know he can give you a call about anything. Open yourself to whatever concerns he may have. Listen to him and try to assist in his growth.

But like brehs in the thread are saying, we really can’t ignore the elephant in the room when it comes to who these women pick.
