Dude this ain't the 80s no more. The league don't live and die based on whether or not "premier" franchises are good. The Lakers won 27 games this yet and they STILL profited $100 million this year. Look it up.

The league lives off stars now. Hell the MVP plays in fukking Oklahoma City and he's got commercials everywhere. It's a stars league now. The league did just fine financially with both the Lakers and Celtics being trash so would they rig it for them?

But the league DOES stand to make a lot of money with the storyline of a maligned hometown son who turned his back on his hometown initially but is now going back to make good. And what better way to set that up than gifting that team the #1 overall pick in the deepest draft in years and 3 out of the last 4 #1 picks? That way they can avoid a situation like the one when he was first in CLE with bad players and replace that team with 3 picks who are assumed to be talented and on the upswing.
