My Pops Forever RIP
Although they weren't on the level they are now, there was a period where BG was carrying the label & I felt the same way then.

I believe I have underestimated Baby & his ability to recognize when it's time to dispose of talent.

BG - Was dropping nothing but fire from Chopper City to Chopper City In The Ghetto. Checkmate wasn't very good & he was gone. Now some people actually like his later work, but Baby already got his best years.

Juvenile - Baby already got his best work

Turk - He knew what he had with Turk. Surprised he gave him the green light to release one solo.

Mannie Fresh - Mannie will always be dope, but Baby got his prime years

The point is he used these guys when they were at their best & then disposed of them. That's why he never seemed to trip when they left. None of those guys ever released material that was as close to being good as their CMR material. He held on to Wayne back then, because he knew he hadn't got Wayne's best yet. He's gotten it now. :whew: I doubt he gives a fukk if Wayne wants to leave because he's already had his best years. Baby is a beast
Birdman would kill it as a football GM. Same mentality and everything

Hiphop fans are weird. Something about internal beef turns fans off completely. Give me an outspoken rapper that has bounced back from internal label beef?

I think the way Curren$y and Mannie Fresh left is the way to go. Public Outcry on twitter and IG makes you seem weak and jaded I guess. Leave, take the label to court, but keep making music.

I would say that speaks more to the labels' role in the artists' success

Birdman has a conversation with Slim 15 years down the line

Birdman - "He's slowing down playboy. Punchlines ain't hitting like they use to. Don't like the material they given me to talk my shyt."

Slim - "But Baby, he's your grandson"

Birdman - :birdman: "Someone gotta make the hard decisions playboy."

The same goes for all these dudes with label deals. :yeshrug:

It's always ironic reading some story about a rapper on a label under a popping artist, example MMG or Grand Hustle, waiting on clearance from Atlantic or Def Jam. Dudes walking around claiming boss status because the labels let them have their own office inside their building. But can't even put out "their" own artists without permission.

Dudes aren't bosses....dudes are managers....actually, dudes are Super A&R reps really. The large conglomerates give rappers label deals, so they can find other artists and do all the leg work that labels don't want to do anymore....A&R, artist development, PR, etc.

So, instead of having street teams and PR, now labels just say, " Rick, you have your label...MMG. Now, you're a CEO...or a boss" :skip:

Now, instead of Def Jam having to do all the leg work, and pay the cost, to find Meek Mill, Rick Ross does it. Then Ross develops Meek Mill, gets his buzz going, takes him on tour and only brings him to the major when Meek Mill is ready to do numbers. Saves the major money and time. And no more dealing with artists.

Majors are like the Godfather and these label deal rappers are the underbosses who manage soldiers. The Godfather delegates via the underbosses and only deals with the soldiers when absolutely necessary. But they still determine when the album gets released, the "image" and what the budget is.

Peace
At the end of the day cacs run this whole music industry. They'll use media to build u up. Once your hot and poppin they'll let u shine. Then when their tired of u they'll use that same media to tear u down then tax u out. Rinse and repeat. Your better off creatin a buzz like Big K.R.I.T. did with the free albums and just bandcamp ur music and just tour.
