Black excellence

Yeah. They divorced back in 2000 though. They were married for 17 years. My dad could have been more rich if he wanted but he's more in helping people with this building. He built many houses and stuff for the black people around town that had money. He's cheap and wasn't in it for the big big money.

Nah. Both my parents were broke. My dad still lives check to check. We had no advantages growing up. Few of my brothers sold drugs to buy me lil girl things growing up cuz they felt bad.

Parents were immigrants in the white mans Canada, brehs

My mom was an Advanced Nurse Practitioner by the time I was born. Sudden onset of cancer and MS when I was in 3rd grade. Been disabled ever since. Lives with my sister in DC whos a lawyer. Dad played in the NFL and retired due to injury right after I was born. Has been an entrepreneur ever since. Less successful now than he used to be business wise. He doing alright though.

Yes, in a traditional sense.
Big house, nice cars, My dad has 3 Masters and a PHD.
My mom raised 6 kids.

If my life looks like that, i'll be aight :ehh:

Now as far as what you said about "giving you a financial headstart" :mjlol::mjlol::russ::russ:

That's not how Nigerians roll at all. Once you are old enough to work, you are old enough to pay for everything (including paying back to your parents).
Your parents stop supporting you when you hit high school. By the time you graduate, you are supporting them and the family whether you want to or not.

For example:
-My sister and I paid for my little brother's college.
-My two older brothers paid for my youngest brothers college
-My 3 older siblings and I paid for my families new compound in Igbokuw
-All 6 of us paid for my dads Mercedez for his 60th B-day, and are paying mom's Mercedez for her 60th (this year)

Breh I STILL pay my dad's internet, my older brother STILL pays my dad's car insurance, my sister STILL pays my dad phone bill :damn:

Can't wait till I have a buncha kids so I can finesse the hell out of them. :wow:

suburban and privilege kids exposing themselves :sas2:

:yeshrug: I didn't even get into my grandparents money and acres of land my family has down south. :umad:

My first cousin is a nice girl who has been struggling with alcohol and drugs but she does her best. They are literally trying to GIVE her my great grandmas old house down south to live in and probably have forever. It's in the middle of no where so she don't want it because she can't live that city life anymore

Successful in that they raised a son who is competent and driven.

Financially? :usure: but they worked with what they had and I'm appreciative.

Optimistic But I Got Hands Tho
Both my parents are from the hood, Black, and come from an uneducated lineage that earned their keep through the church and the steel/automobile industries.

They both went on to graduate college.....got married, had successful careers, and stayed together.

They are now enjoying retirement together.

Alhamdulillah for my parents :blessed:. They mad successful and literally came from nothing.
My family came to the states when I was in elementary school not even speaking english (except for my mom). We were on welfare while my mom went to college.
Couple years later Pops finally got his visa approved. Still lived in the hood as he worked low pay labor jobs while my moms finished up school. My mom got a good job and my dad continued to grind.

Moms moved up the ladder, parlayed that into starting her own company, and a couple years later my dad was able to quit his job and help her run the company. About 2 years later they started pulling in a steady 6 figures each. Company finally broke 7 figures in profit in 2010. Parlay that into new businesses and partnerships:banderas:

Did they give us a head start? Hell yeah!
They are big on education. As long as our grades were on point we could work, play sports, etc. in HS. I always had at least a part time job since HS and on top of that, they didn't want a dime of my $ unlike some of my less fortunate homies who had to help support their fam. I spent my $ on putting tints and a cd deck in my first car (shytty '92 accord).

Shyt they did that gave us a head start:
  • Stable family/home life since I can remember. I mean every fam has their issues but they always made sure we were one unit regardless of what happened or difference of opinion etc.:to:
  • My siblings and I all got a "new" car upon graduating.
  • They helped pay for ALL our colleges. I finished undergrad with ZERO debt! My sister just got her masters with less than $10K in loans. My other sister got her BSN last year and they're helping her pay off her loans, even tho got a job straight out of school. Basically my moms hates debt and was mad at my sister for buying a new car instead of using all that $ to pay her school loans.
  • Setting up that generational wealth. They own properties in different countries/continents and shyt. I'm currently trying to help my mom come up with a plan to retire w/in then next 2-3years. And she's not even 50 yet
With that in my blood not succeeding isn't an option
Lets get it brehs:lawd:
