Where are you exactly? In NYC and tri state area, this is definitely not the case at all. Africans tend to keep more to themselves here, even in AA dominated areas. And keep in mind that we have a pretty large African population here.

We have areas up in Harlem that are dominated by French speaking West Africans in one area and English speaking West Africans up in the Bronx. Neither sides of West Africans from these areas of the city really connect with each other like that. And then you have Liberians in an isolated area in Statan Island. As for East and South Africans. They're definitely more spread out and less concentrated around the city.
