This may sound weird but WSG is much better if you think of him as a producer rapper. That’s what he is at the end of the day. He may not make beats but he’s definitely a producer, and thinking about it from that frame makes it better. I think he definitely plans for most of the features to be better than him. There’s a reason when their whole crew goes on sway or flex and he lets Benny and Conway freestyle but he never jumps in

I listen to his projects the way I listen to Pete Rock projects for example. I expect Pete to hold his own and have some decent hooks but I never expect him to have the show stealing verse

This is spot on. And West has literally explained this a million times.... and has rhymes that say shyt alluding to it... “I’m Jig not Jigga, nikka... that’s Conway I’m more like Bigg, nikka”

lol low key my nikka gunn been bodied on a few features. i think the most egregious was ya mans royce on 100,000 machine gunz, i would have kicked royce out the studio and sent him on the first thing smoking back to detroit. it was disgusting yet gorgeous


but to me gunn ain't trying to out rap your favorite rapper. he's trying to out swag them with the charisma and stylistic choices. love his shyt man, he cracks me up

Facts, Royce did him dirty and Mf Doom damn near through Subliminal shots at him on one of the records they did (I make it faster then you spends it)

It may not have been a shot but that shyt applied to him in my mind lol.

With that said I feel he can do better then this though but he just doesn't care to try. Ghostface is a rapper who talks fly shyt but he uses real talent to do it. Not only does Westside not have the best voice to begin with but he don't even care to try at least lol. He just talks the same old shyt about selling dope, shooting people and designer clothing rinse and repeat. He doesn't even try to add to the formula and he is the type to do shyt where he would name a song after a wrestler but not mention them in the record lol.

Pete Rock at least tries though lol. If that's the case I might as well just get an instrumental album version imo. Sometimes I can tolerate it too but this one here was very mediocre.

Westside Gunn knows his limitations, which is why outside of Tana Talk 3, and despite the fact that he's the "weakest" out of the whole crew (not lyrically or content wise, just on his voice),he has the best projects out of all of them. He's great at concepts and simply putting projects together, from the beats, to the samples, to the features, to how verses are structured. He never wears out his welcome on songs, and this project is a perfect example of that.
