Westside Gunn knows his limitations, which is why outside of Tana Talk 3, and despite the fact that he's the "weakest" out of the whole crew (not lyrically or content wise, just on his voice),he has the best projects out of all of them. He's great at concepts and simply putting projects together, from the beats, to the samples, to the features, to how verses are structured. He never wears out his welcome on songs, and this project is a perfect example of that.

good post overall but interesting at the bold my G. you ain't alone on this but i actually think that's his strong suit, that voice is amazing to me. original, clear, strong, distinct, slightly nasal but resonant, etc.. and he's learning to use it like an instrument with each successive project. fiends do the dougieeeeee is a prime example lol

This may sound weird but WSG is much better if you think of him as a producer rapper. That’s what he is at the end of the day. He may not make beats but he’s definitely a producer, and thinking about it from that frame makes it better. I think he definitely plans for most of the features to be better than him. There’s a reason when their whole crew goes on sway or flex and he lets Benny and Conway freestyle but he never jumps in

I listen to his projects the way I listen to Pete Rock projects for example. I expect Pete to hold his own and have some decent hooks but I never expect him to have the show stealing verse
Co sign. To me WSG is the visionary of the group. His albums are put together more cohesively than the others. He is the one that pushes the wrestling heel vibe the most. Everything from his ablibs to thirst trapping behavior on social media is to push griselda to get more fame. He does the most to let everyone else shine as possible. They have mad flaws but for some ghetto dope boys YouTube and soundcloud rappers to be in the middle of a run like this is impressive :manny:

About to spin this heat, man I hope they don’t waste this Raekwon feature......

They definitely did.

I was listening to this on my commute and had trouble getting into it. Might need to listen to it again when I'm by myself.

When it comes to all of them - .38 special, Benny the butcher, Westside gun, etc.

Who has the best project?
It depends what you like.

If you want lifestyle raps then listen to Flygod by Westside Gunn.
If you want hustler drug dealing raps listen to Tana Talk 3 by Benny.
If you want shoot 'em up goon raps listen to Reject 2 by Conway.
If you want abstract stream of consciousness raps listen to Haitian Body Odor by Mach Hommy.

And maybe you've heard these next 2 albums, but if you want to hear where this whole wave and style started from then you definitely have to listen to Reloaded by Roc Marciano and Grief Pedigree by Ka. Some people like Grief Pedigree by Ka more, but Roc Marciano and his Reloaded album really kicked this sound and movement into full swing. When it's all said and done I think Reloaded will go down as the most influential underground hip-hop album of the 2010's.

All of those projects will be the recommendations you'll get from 90% of knowledgeable heads. For 38 Spesh, my favorite project of his as of now is the project he did with Benny called Stabbed and Shot. But I'm also late to the party on his work, so a more knowledgeable 38 Spesh fan might have a better recommendation for him though.

I sat with this over the weekend.

I liked it a lot - it didn't stop my whole world on some :ohhh::krs::banderas: like Supreme Blientele did, but it's still dope. It definitely feels like its from the HWH lineage rather than Flygod, but there's nothing wrong with that. :ehh:Production is fire as expected.

Benny is just permanently :wow:at this point.

Conway's bar about telling his young boy "Awesome job :smugbiden::obama::salute:" after he shot three people had me:mjlol: though
