This is doper now than a few days ago. AT first it was weird because it was songs I knew mixed with ones I didn't know, but more I hear the whole thing the more it meshes and gels together better and better.

This got me to run back that whole early era GxFR. Flygod, Reject 2, Don't Get Scared Now, GOAT, Blakk Tape, Tana Talk 3...that whole era was so dope. They were so aggressive and hungry sounding back then.
I’m glad u mentioned goat, that shyt was fire then it’s also fire now. Goat and blakktape are probably equals. The thing about goat that’s dope is it has the best guest appearances you could ask for on prime griselda beats with conway slaughtering shyt.

Also this project is in the top 10 gxfr releases it might be number 5 for me, “maybe” taking “hwh8 side A” out the 5th spot. I’ll give it more time to see where it actually is but, right now it’s sounding really dope & classic. Also like I’ve said before mac 10 wounds is on my version right after Pete vs Andre.

94 ghost is crazy.

All the Shady released projects are almost entirely sample free. WWCD, GDMM, and WMTSS.

The stuff I heard 2nd hand was that Shady didn't want to clear the samples for this album, and Conway, Gunn, and Alc didn't want to remake the beats without samples.

Hall & Nash 2 was finished before they signed to Shady, so it was a different situation than WWCD where they went into it knowing there couldn't be samples and having the work around of Beat Butcha making original sounds and music for Daringer and Alchemist to chop up and loop. If they'd signed to Shady first they might've made H&N2 that same way.

Daringer produced it and supposedly it was meant for GOAT but Mach leaked it online. Pretty sure it was recorded after this Hall and Nash 2 album. Conway seemed angry and didn’t seem like he ever wants to release anything with Mach ever again

:mjcry:
Smh I wish Mach didn’t move so funny, him and Conway had really good chemistry on songs.

I remember this convo happening on the Coli when they signed. To me at the time it was a bad move specifically because of sampling. You can't clear samples if you can't sell records. Dunno if they simply didn't have that conversation during negotiation or whether Shady wasn't up front about it. Either way we all saw what happened.

Dope project, prob easily in their top 10 or so releases. I can’t imagine what it would have been like had they released this when they were supposed to.

I think the next one is gonna be great too, Daringer has stepped his shyt up another level in the past couple years and Alc is Alc

Wish they had Ajax on here as like a bonus, that’s still the best Hall and Nash song imo

It was dumb because Slaughterhouse just went through the same shyt and got a shelved album then pushed to the side.

Not entirely sure and @Piff Perkins might know more, but a lot of major labels don't wanna do it very much these days, from what I understand. Especially if it's not an artist that's going to move numbers. Obviously, people they'll clear samples for people like Drake or Kendrick, etc. They just don't have the budgets for it like they used to, and they can sign artists that don't even care to use beats with samples at all.

Samples can be expensive to clear and eat into royalty payments. Unless you're selling a lot of records or are signed to someone who is willing to handle shyt for you (Dreamville/Cole via Interscope for instance when it comes to the less popular artists on that label) a lot of labels don't want to pay out for that shyt today. Westside, Conway etc have struggled to chart on Billboard so the label will always want to cut costs. That's why Beat Butcha and Hit Boy are constantly on those albums. They make a lot of beats without samples or do interpolations, and the label just pays the flat fee for the track, plus whatever the publishing split is. VS having to pay that plus clear the sample and pay publishing to the sampled artist every time the record sales/streams.

I remember Alchemist waiving his fees or taking no publishing just to help get beats cleared for Interscope. He did that for Break The Bank, off Oxymoron @TheDarceKnight and prob did it for other tracks. Flip side when he's on a massive album like Drake's recent deluxe or the last two Kendrick albums, he knows the budget is infinite and doesn't have to worry about that stuff. If the label knows the album is going to sell, or believes it's going to sell, they're more open to clearing shyt.
