where else is the money going to come from? plus all the stores that rely on commuting, coffee shops, gas stations, etc. we can;t sustain so many people staying at home. so either spend that excess money or we tax it.
From the companies themselves? Asking the government to tax everyone working from home might legitimately be one of the worst ideas I've heard, especially since not all work from home situations are the same.
For example, I live in Phoenix, and for business reasons, I'm part of a team based on the east coast. I didn't make that choice, the company made it for me. No one else in my physical office works on my team, or does the same work as I do. There is absolutely no benefit to me coming in to the office at this time, for me OR the company. I'm supposed to get taxed 10% because the company got smart enough to realize that we don't need everyone in the same place to be effective? Remote work is being used by a lot of companies to expand their footprint, and take steps towards having the best available talent on hand, not just the best talent that was within acceptable commuting range. Taxing those employees would be a huge step back.
