Summer of 2020, love it. When I feel like cranking out work, I dont have to go at the oace of an instructor. When I dont feel like doing shyt, I dont have to worry about attendance. I just pick it up when I feel like it again. If I knew about this option 10 years ago, I would already be degreed.
That's good to hear. My mindset is the opposite. I'm trying to get this degree as fast as possible. I want it out the way in 4-6 months. Just so I can put a bid in for higher-paying contract gigs.
I saw you ask previously for the easiest course, that would be the IT management B.S. it doesnt have the certs so you can power through the degree using reddit tips. If you want a degree in 4-6 months just to say you have one, that is it.
Yeah, I already got a gang of certs. I got the majority of the certs offered for the BS Information Technology degree. I just don't have Cloud Practioner ,ITIL or Project+. I heard you can transfer them over so you don't have to take courses. All of the certs are active too not expired.
For anybody looking for cheap routes, you can get plenty of the prerequisites done on sophia.com, study.com, straighterline, etc.

Then you only have about ~15 classes left to finish at wgu.

Like another breh said though, you don't need a degree if you want to go into software, most people who will interview you can care less.

However, it does help get you by any HR checks to get you more interviews.

I'm going to check this out.

I knew about it a few years before eventually applying because I fell for the "online school is bad" thing. I did some more research and found out it was an accredited school and applied. Glad I did because I would not be where I am now without this degree.

If you did not go to a top 50 school, no one is going to care what school you got your degree from.

Rocking the cloud track myself as well. Short of becoming a software engineer, it looked like the shortest distance between me and six figures. Learn a lil python, bash, and apply system admin principals I already know and eat. I see that WGU just diversified Cloud so now they have AWS and Azure centric course tracks.

Yup, are you doing the multi-cloud? I ended up taking the Azure track cause my current employer is all Azure-based.

Facts. And I am almost 5 years into IT anyway. The degree is just to make sure I get what I ask for in negotiations. The upfront cost is nothing compared to the upside.

Nah, OG cloud. It focused on AWS to a lesser degree and a bunch of system admin principals. I wish I had one of the newer degree tracks TBH but I am halfway through so no complaints. All that matters is the finish line. I figure AWS is top dog so if Azure is necessary, I will learn it when I need to.

Used WGU while I was in the military. I already had my Bachelors so I used it for a masters in cyber and information assurance. Didn't pay a dime because of the tuition assistance available and completed the 9 courses in about 1 year and a half. Best thing about it is it is self-paced. :blessed:

Yeah dude got multiple degrees. This is how he's been doing it:

While it was a speed run, dude definitely finished other prerequisites prior and working experience.

The thing is it's an accredited university and enough to get through the HR check. As a software engineer myself (with a B.S) I can tell you straight up so many people with degrees (that includes PhD's) still can't do the job, while many people without the degrees can.

HR is basically there to forward people they think are qualified to the engineering team. Unfortunately, they're assessments are usually "meh" and they let many people fly right by them who are good and many people who are terrible get forwarded to us to interview all because of having a degree.

Yeah, you're right that's the only reason I want a degree. Just to have a better chance at higher-paying gigs. I already got certs. I thinking of doing that study.com technique to speed up the process. If it's possible to get a BS in under 6 months. I'll do it. I don't mind grinding it out.

Any tips or tricks for doing the course?

Yeah it seems absolutely 100% doable and it's legit. Many people online (on social media like reddit) talking about them speed running it as well.
