The role of the VP is only as strong as the President makes it. dikk Chaney had a lot of power as VP. Biden had significant responsibility as VP. He had a foreign relations portfolio, immigration and he was the guy to work things out between Congress and the white house due to his relationships from being a 36 year Senator and because they refused to cooperate with Obama.

Supposedly Kamala's job duties right now are immigration and voting rights. Both are dead end projects that will not give her any additional value to her name. She's just a name at this point.

Biden was only picked as VP due to being the Senator from Delaware and his relationship with Wall Street. He was there to keep an eye on Obama.
