I think he's probably talking about using all of those old kung-fu movie samples

Timbo for black music = yes.
Hiphop, I can't see how. He had classic club bangers and shyt, but nothing of the levels of cats like Premo. R&B on the other hand, that's another discussion for another forum.
or his albums he produced for missy.1. DR DRE (obviously)... the west coast wouldn't be whut it is without the legacy of DRE
2. TIMBALAND... i dunno how or WHY people keep overlooking one of the most talented gifted producer that ever graced black music in general. the CURRENT hiphop sound TODAY sounds like shyt he done a half a DECADE ago. he ALWAYS stay ahead of the times.
3. PRINCE PAUL... the most underrated producer EVER. they wouldn't be a RZA without prince paul paving the way. they wouldn't be a backpack rap sound either... there wouldn't be A LOT of producers in the game had it not been for paul expanding the ways to craft beats, albums, ect... from being the originator of putting skits. to the concept album. to obscure sampling...everything!

come on, and yet the rap music today..the sound is shyt that timbo was doing in the mid-00's. or how people were biting his style in the late 90's
so his tracks for people like jay-z weren't memorable...or his albums he produced for missy.
What is dj quiks best beat?
I think most Missy shyt after the two first albums were straight pop or r&b and even the 2 first weren't really straight hiphop. Like giving Kanye props as a hiphop producer for 808s and Heartbreaks.
He had nice Jay-z beats besides the club banger singles he had like 3-4 dope joints with Jigga, Bubba Sparxxx had nice production but not classic in any way.
Timbaland is oen of the most important people in pop production, r&b production, in hiphop as well at least as far as club bangers go. But I can't see why anyone would have him at #2.

Dre is the highest ranking rap producer (if you don't count Rick Rubin and Nile Roger, which I don't).
