The thing that’s so infuriating to me is that this woman is trying to appeal to the better angels and reason with Lutnick, a sociopath with borderline personality disorder who might be a pedophile. Make it make sense.

They have always been for enriching themselves and corporations at the cost of the middle class. What Trump is doing is what they've always done but on steroids. The outcome is still the same - mass amounts of wealth flows to the top, and those not at the top suffocate.

Rinse & repeat. The end result is a slightly lower quality of life as expectations trend lower because people just want to have a somewhat decent/manageable life without chaos/stress/worry.

Wall Street already has made it's money from it through the initial offering and they will make more through more offerings which will dilute the value of the stock. That's how stock works for them. They get people to buy in and then dilute it. They make more money. Stock holders get left with the bag.​

And this, to me, is the heart of the matter.

Objectively, you can say Norway and La Suisse are better places than the US in that they offer better public amenities, are safer, have better food quality, etc. But life isn't 100% about the objective measurable stats. There's the subjective part, too

I used to live in DC/DMV before moving out to SF a few years ago to work in fintech. Objectively, SF offers a better quality of life than the DMV; better weather, higher pay, better food quality, access to nature etc.

But subjectively, as a Naija breh, the DMV clears this place. The dearth of well-to-do black professionals is jarring. As a breh, you are a proper minority here - less than 10% of the population - compared to DC that's 50%+ black.

My objective quality of life might be higher in a Norway, but as a breh, I wouldn't thrive as I could in a USA.

An aside: the scale of the US in size, demographic diversity and population don't make for clean comparisons to places like Norway and/or Switzerland.

Replacing income taxes with Tariffs is the last thing the average person would want. Basically this is their way of getting their flat tax. Progressive income taxes increases the cost for the wealthy, correctly, and minimizes the burden on the poorest.

Tarriffs to replace income tax is basically a flat tax. The consumers and small businesses are going to bear the brunt of the cost of that while the wealthier corporations and individuals get away with a very very low tax burden, lower than what they already have.

Any normal person cheering this on is dumb, but the reason why these people can convince dirt poor folks this is a win is precisely because they know they are dumb and they will buy it as long as the right person is saying it.

i am genuinely curious what the job market looks like in 2-3 years.

same, the job market has been downward in tech since 2022, and now it seems a lot of white collar employment has been stagnated or declining since 2024. literally nothing is looking like it will turn this around given "the economy" - ie corporations - is still doing well. plus we got 3 more years until a new jackass takes office so there's a lot of time for the government to make things worse. i've never felt this pessimistic in my life
