I'm watching Gintama for the 1st time l. When does it pick up bc I'm around episode 6.
If you don't find it funny by now it's probably not for you. Gintama does have serious arcs where it turns into a battle shonen out of nowhere but otherwise it's an episodic comedy with gags and adulthood life lessons.
Watched knights of sidonia and I hated it.
The gross animation style really put me off but I was mostly bored by the story and characters.
Definitely the worst one I've watched so far. Although that's only 3

is it just these 25 episodes or was there any other seasons or whatever?I'd disagree with this somewhat. I think Gintama clearly levels up even in the comedy once you get to episode 50ish. Long wait and understandable if you're not willing to wait.
It starts off with too much focus on the filler alien characters and the actual main cast do not hit their stride until later.

This Cybereye FREAK is worse than Little finger. I don't trust his assI didn't catch all the little stuff leading surrounding him when it was my first time watching. That shyt hit me like a truck this time though.

I was dumb as fukk the first time I watched this
it was still GOAT TV, but now I'm hitting pause almost every episode because I know each line got weight to it 
Even that 'filler' episode where the Kaiser officially threw his former jumpoff in the bushes

It does get better as you go along. Just don't think it or think any show is worth watching if you're bored early on and have to get to episode 50 to be entertained.
I loved Gintama from the start (post episodes you're supposed to skip). The introductions to the characters are all great.
there is nothing more infuriating when reading the continuation of an anime threw manga/novel and finding out they dropped the translation.
Finally got around reading GATE only to find out that volume 9 and 10 aren't translated and volume 8 left on a major cliffhanger
