but he also answered his own question (inadvertently) about why they don't take risks (MONEY). My love for anime started dying for the exact same reason my love of hip hop did. Everything was either similar to same content-wise and watered-down ad nauseum (seriously, look at the parallels between the Japanese animation industry and our Hip Hop industry, it's 85 percent fluff now).
All the corporations are busy eating each other which leaves far less money and personnel to accurately put into either medium.
The current target audiences (in Japan for anime, and the US for hip hop) are perceived dumb as fukk, but a lot of us have this unyielding love for both of these things because of what they once were.
