One big question that I had left was why didn't Homura inform the others regarding how Soul Gems turning into Grief Seeds cause Magical Girls to turn into witches. Essentially, regardless if Homura told what was really going on or being more cryptic, nothing was bound to change. Funny enough, in this scenario, Sayaka still labels her being the same as Kyouko.

Though this episode did an outstanding job at showcasing Homura's motivation. Homura really was quite the opposite that she is now. She is actually frail and very passive. Madoka as a Magical Girl saved her from her demise. Much like how Madoka has been on the sidelines throughout this show, the same was for Homura. Her wish was simply to be able to protect Madoka. But sadly, she alone wasn't strong enough. Then comes Madoka's wish to her to prevent her from becoming a Magical Girl.

Though and through Homura will keep going back as many times as it takes to prevent the tragedy. Her resolve in this manner is very eye-opening. Her use of time magic is very interesting. Making the use of it through bombs and guns is very intriguing and very much not what you expect out of a Magical Girl. You are just left wondering if it is even possible and if so, how is Homura's mental at this point? Her change in personality to know compared to before she became a Magical Girl is a giant difference.

Sadly, the problem again of her not being strong enough. Where even against Walpurgis she couldn't stop Madoka's fate. Though interesting enough, Madoka was able to one shot Walpurgis. More so implying how strong Madoka's potential is, but I can only assume that since she couldn't Walpruigus with a presumably weaker Homura is a showcase of the destined path of Magical Girls. The moment she becomes a Magical Girl is when Madoka is at her strongest and her path to be a witch is set in stone from that point.

Essentially, once Madoka becomes a Magical Girl, the world is doomed. Madoka who is shown as one of the most kindhearted characters in this series, is responsible for destroying not what she holds precious to her, but everything. Of course, Homura knows that Madoka wouldn't want any of that. Here we truly see Kyuubey's true colors as once he has the energy from Madoka being a witch, he doesn't care about anything else. Truly scum.

Looking forward to this really liked season 1

Nice. Season 1 was really well made. I hope we get more advanced play though, I'm too old (and too big into futbol) to get into the simplest things in the sport being treated as a big deal :heh: the story is good and the MC is a good ol' sports shonen protagonist.

The only concern is that S2 is witching from Production IG to TMS Entertainment. Then again, the animation was stellar for S1, so this might not be a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

I forgot that Meg didn't tell Sophie about her curse. While on one point, Sophie's point is that without magic Meg wouldn't be cursed. Although with the festival, she more so gets to understand why Meg loves magic so much. As the people are connected with is because of her magic. I am happy that Sophie doesn't want to get rid of magic after all, Meg & her got to know each other because of magic and Meg is Sophie's first friend. Though more pressure on Meg to not let the curse beat her, though her progress would need to improve.

The conversation between Homura & Kyuubey was interesting because it more so talked about why Madoka has so much potential. Homura's whole purpose of going back into time was to save Madoka. The term karmic destiny more implies the importance of that person. Thus, each time Homura went back into time it enhanced the importance of Madoka. An interesting way that it can be looked it is to see Homura's personality and how that evolved. As Homura held her feelings in her heart and her outward personality became colder, the more potential Madoka had as a Magical Girl. Madoka's wish for Homura was to save her and thus that carried over, so the current Madoka is connected to all the other Madokas in a way. Though it does make me curious about Homura's time magic.

Kyuubey and Madoka's conversation where his rebuttal for him lacking guilt for the despair that the girls pointing to how humans treat livestock kind of really showcases how he lacks emotions. Madoka by all accounts, is an innocent school girl. She has no power or effect on these livestock. While Kyuubey played a major part with Mami, Sayaka & Kyouko. He was well aware of the demise that they would go through. To him, it was just natural and part of evolution. To also add, the only thing, he cares about is to counteract entropy. There was a flashback episode where he wasn't bothered about what would come next after Madoka became a witch. Now he alludes that it is thanks to their sacrifices that society has evolved. It was their sacrifice truly what moved society forward. It is kind of the point of Madoka talking with Kyuubey is pointless because he is a being that views emotion as a disease.

I loved the moment that Homura was finally honest with Madoka is when in the pictures in the background we see Homura's journey. How far she has traveled to save Madoka. This is the true Homura, and she is someone who lacks the confidence that even Madoka has. Though she pushes forward because she wants to save her friend who saved her. Although it really raises the question if Homura is ok? After all, considering how many times Homura went back into the past where she lost Madoka again and again and again. The inevitable fate of a Magical Girl is when they lose hope with their wish is then they fall into despair to become a witch. Kyuubey is really manipulating, but here is his point that to get the answer regarding Homura Madoka would need to see her for herself.

I do love the bit of focus on Madoka's mom because you can tell she really cares for Madoka. It shows how parenting to be difficult because you want to trust your kid. At the same time, you just wonder if they are really ok. As Sayaka is found dead and how dear Sayaka was to Madoka. I did love her conversation with Madoka because she was able to show Madoka her concerns, at the same time she trusted her. There are only things she can do. Though ironic that Homura just wants to save Madoka, but in reality it is also Homura who needs to be saved by Madoka. Is there anyway for Madoka to defy her fate? Her fate to becoming a Magical Girl is sealed, but falling into despair and becoming a witch. Can she defy that?

man that’s crazy!!!

they need to make OT mandatory for the SL team or add more staff

They need to be cranking out more eps…. No excuses :camby:

Not true breh there’s context in it that probably wasn’t said like if one team is working on it and not outsourcing it
From what I know and reading comments that is the response and also could be adding all the individual workers hours to equate what it takes to make that

Long running series would have that same issue and other anime would too if it was legit true

Your saying it was started what 25 years ago basically if it takes that long since it was 25 episodes keep in mind it’s really 1 season but got separated and changed into s1 and s2 instead of 1 season

Finished the first full season of Madoka Magic. When Shaft is good, they are really, really fukking good. Both this and Monogatari being absolute 10/10 anime experiences. Will watch the Rebellion movie next.

Throughout this show, Madoka has always been the one who is the more typical Magical Girl with her ideals. She recognizes how much Homura is done for her in ways that she probably can't fully comprehend. Going back in time again and again. No doubt how much Homura cares for Madoka has hit her. Though the question remains, at what point does Homura fall into despair and become a witch? At the same time, it would go against Homura's wish to fall prey to become a witch. Given how strong the Karmic Weight was for Madoka thanks to Homura is partially what allowed Madoka to have her wish come true. I guess the differences in previous timelines is that Homura intentions become clear to Madoka. She didn't realize that Homura was preventing her from becoming a witch.

sQ0UDlJ.png

In previous conversations with Kyuubey he basically let the girls make their wishes, which would lead to their despair. It was the idea that their own wishes betray them. Madoka wants to be that hope. Like how she prevented Homura from falling to despair, she wanted to do that with all the Magical Girls in the past. Essentially, it can be implied that Madoka became the very ideal of what Magical Girls are. Continuing fighting against all the odds. It could be easier to fall into despair. Interesting enough, the difference here is also Madoka herself no longer becomes a witch because she herself keeps on fighting until the end. I guess it is more a logical argument because if Madoka were to become a witch, then that would go against her wish.

In a sad reality that nobody, but Homura remembers Madoka. Although Madoka's existence isn't truly erased. Her little brother's imaginary friend is Madoka. The ideal daughter for Junko is still Madoka. Madoka at this point is still existing, but more as a concept and a God for Magical Girls. This is kinder fate then erasing her presence and there is still no root Madoka would have existed. The idea that from a certain point of view, Madoka would still be the ideal daughter and older sister for her family leaves Homura more happiness and part is why she continues to push forward.

rwOgZCO.png

Although between all the conversations with the other Magical Girls & Madoka, it seems Sayaka is no longer around. Interesting turn rather than her continuing living. This was a showcase that while the concept of witches may be gone, but falling to despair is not gone. Madoka more than likely could have saved Sayaka, but then her wish would be void because otherwise she would fall into despair. Madoka does not save her from despair, but instead allows her to pass on. As she knows that she would rather have her wish fulfilled. I guess instead of being jealous of Hitomi because it was mentioned the terrible thoughts she had towards Hitomi for being able to ask out Kyosuke before she turned into a witch in the previous timeline. Rather, her remark that Hitomi is too good of a girl gives her a more peaceful send off.

So now Homura is the only one that remembers the concept of witches. So, in this timeline, wraiths are present. I do like that erasing the concept of witches doesn't create this ideal world because it is only naturally the curses of human life are still bound. As that is something you can't erase. Anger, Jealously and happiness these things must always exist. Without these things, life would become to dull, and I am sure Madoka realized that with her wish. As we saw the hug between Madoka & Homura before where Madoka mentions she is always will be by her side. Madoka's wings and her usage of a bow shows that Madoka is always with her now.

This ending points that Madoka is a concept of what is a Magical Girl. Offering an ending that is a balance between idealized and realism.
