I feel like it's a forever issue with shonen rather than just a past two years thing. It's harder to think of good shonen without a big organization that gives missions and introduces the broader cast of allies then it is to come up with exceptions. Dandadan comes to mind.
Yea for sure it's been longer than 2 years I was just mentioning how long it typically takes for me to start feeling burnout once I notice the pattern

Come to mind immediately as shows that didn't do this (yet) which imo gives the author more freedom with how characters are introduced and meet each other instead of just introducing everyone as a coworker

I'm not counting "hero guilds" and stuff you'd typically find in in fantasy adventure stories, I'm specifically talking about the secret police agency styled organizations, starts with the MC being drafted, having a rival they eventually team up with, etc.

Like, Naruto wouldn't fit the bill because every nation has its own ninja military.

But if being a ninja was a unique thing and he secretly got added to the Anbu and we just follow their story, then it would apply.

It's actually a lot worse in shounen manga lately :mjlol:. So much copy & paste. It feels like everything tries to be like CSM but in the most generic way possible. There are far too many of these Exorcist-like series.

Lord of Mysteries EP 5

They lied @tripleaamin

This plot is still going a million miles a minute :mjlol:
Man they really don't give a fukk for the non novel reader :dead:

Yea man it's like subconsciously they don't want to try to figure out how to introduce the MC to other characters and become friends naturally so they use this method to force a social group onto the character and have them become friends by default, now that I noticed it I can't unsee it

And yea :mjlol: I would have no fukking clue what Klein was doing and why if I wasn't reading it right now. The skipped right ahead to another fight, no explanation of the powers being used or anything

The animation is still 10 outta 10 tho :whew:

Konosuba director & his staff are great, but tbh the way they are adapting Silent Witch, they are making the anime too comedic. Plus they ended up skipping an important scene in episode 3 the first LN volume. I do hope they get the tone right for episode 4 which should be the last episode covering the first volume. Starting to have more concerns.

Finished Leviathan
  • Nice reimagining of WWI
  • Good world building
  • Great use of CGI. A smidge Ghibli in parts, but I can see great future fo this tech.
  • The "romance" - Uhh, a bit confused tbh. I swear I've seen the same vibe pop off in Kung Fu movies though

I feel you. That list is basically a whose who of my favorite anime of the past half a decade too...just add Apothecary Diaries and Orb to complete it. Those don't follow any of the tried-and-true formulas either.

AoButa S2 - Episode 3:

This is one of those arcs I just wondered does it really need to be supernatural? Zukki, for someone who never could read the room well, starts to read the room because that could be her main complaint from others considering her goals regarding Sweet Bullet & Budokan. Her wanting to understand the other girls more. Then much of the arc could have gone how it went in this episode. I am happy Zukki stayed true to herself because this makes her who she is basically. Sure, achieving both goals together might not be the most realistic, but screw it why not go for it?

For "The Summer Hikaru Died" episode 3 this was more straight forward in what they adapted. As it was, chapters 5-7. With what they adapted this episode.

  • Liked the usage of it inside of Yoshiki's mind where it says Move on from this, but of course his actions are in doubt still.
  • They didn't focus on Yoshiki's arm in the scene with Asako & Yuki in the classroom. Although the arm gets focus on the scene in with Hikaru.
  • Also, the moment Yoshiki reaches his hand out to Hikaru sunflowers are dying. It's a bit ambiguous what this could mean at this point in the story. One such thing could be that Yoshiki decided on this path.
The classroom scene in particular how they play around with it with a dark screen, screen when "Hikaru" was unstable. Changing to a line until he grabbed Yoshiki really ramped up the horror in that scene.

Regarding the episode itself.

I think this episode really illustrates well how getting over one person's death can be hard. Of course Yoshiki knows that this isn't the same Hikaru. But of course the body of Hikaru is there. You even see that in Yoshiki's mind that he needs to move on, but the mind and the heart are two different things.

"Hikaru" breaking down and whatever that thing was that attached to Yoshiki was bad news. Who knows what would have happened if "Hikaru" didn't stop. I do think calling this Hikaru a kid is an interesting spin. He really attaches himself to Yoshiki a lot and with everything he does.

The ending has great symbolism at the end with Yoshiki reaching his hand out, and we see sunflowers dying.

I still don't like the self-insert stuff that is going on in his show, but the world-building & magic system is really neat so far. Also, the fight in episode 4 was pretty solid & better than I was expecting :ehh:

To be Father X :banderas: my sons the Johnnie's chillin with Ghostblade is the buddy cop film I never knew I needed, everything about this is perfect

Him asking how to be a better father was :russ: he had no idea how down bad Blade was

Blasting the Lucky Cyan in the whip :banderas: this is life, all these characters crossing paths like this is how you supposed to build a cast, Cyan going on a classic mixtape run in the background of all of this makes it even more raw, I was waiting on the DJ Drama drop

and they were slick with multiple "fathers" all out together with their kids, the setup for all of this was written so well

They put him on blast so bad in front of his daughter holy shyt :dead: the misinterpretation is out of control

BUTTER KNIFE BLADE WORKS :blessed: :damn: took chunks outta that breh, this wasn't even a fight he just walked that boy down

The Johnnies got a 3-4 episode arc coming up next :wow: this has to be the event that brings most of them together, Queen/Cyan/Loli/Blade are all there.

I haven't seen a show put together a quality cast this large in ages :mjcry:and since we getting backstory from jump they won't have bullshyt flashbacks in the middle of fights like most shows....nobody's a side character either :ohlawd:

ain't no way RDC letting all 10 of them in anime house they'd take that hoe over
