Been watching "The Shy Hero and the Assassin Princesses". This is a surprisingly charming series. The girls end up getting a lot more characterization than I expected. Along with a clear backstory, the bounds between are very nice. Toto has slight improvements and actually makes for a decent mc surprisingly.

Connect really is coming its own to being a solid studio. Anime visuals & direction are rock solid.

Fun Call of the Night episode. Basically adapting chapters 66 to 68 and part of 69. Liked how they adapted 68 & most of the stuff from 69 since it fits closer with Kabura & the hospital stuff with Haru.

World Building continues to be great.

This episode did an outstanding job in asking of what does it mean to be a hero. In many ways you can understand why Alicia feels like she is no longer a hero. Not only is she a walking corpse now, but the people in Hiden are dead because of that failure. At the same time, Klen does make a good point: does holding a sword make you a hero? It is more so the point that what you do is what makes you a hero. Nell absolutely looks at Alicia and believes she is a hero.

Meanwhile, for Klen Alicia makes a point that if Hiden is gone there isn't much benefit for Luna to be king. Making it clear that Boelate is a pure antagonistic force in this series. Adding to the point, their General Drel is the main antagonist at this point in the story. Though it makes you wonder why did he seek out to kill Alicia's father & who was his friend? Just feel bad for Alicia being conflicted about what she wants. Though you can tell her father was a kind man as his quote on war is the furthest path from being a hero.

As expected, their hiding didn't last for long. We see Boelate's head wizard in Meynard Swan launching an attack, and with him is a high wizard with the name Naie Chiffonlitis. Kind of a fukked situation now, but this does give Alicia the opportunity to act as a hero. Although it is a pretty grim situation.

Wow the animation during the Goemon fight is outstanding. :wow: Also, the darkness orb sucking in people & granting their wishes except to escape is a turn I didn't expect. Jubei is going wish for alcohol isn't he? xD

Both this & Kijin Gentoushou are genuine good Dark Fantasy series we got this season. Both well constructed, with good world-building, interesting characters, etc. We need more anime like that; too much edgy stuff gets animated. Visuals on Kijin Gentoushou are a bit wack at times, but the story & characters are great enough to keep me engaged.

Boss wrong….. was related to Hotel Inhuman:mjgrin:
Also, it's a better show if we keep it real. Sakamoto Days is dope, but the story is just fights & aura, basically. The fights in the anime not coming close to how they were in the manga saddens me :mjcry:. They better get a bigger budget when they adapt the big flashback arc :unimpressed:

Even though Hotel Inhuman has been episodic I like how it dives into the assassins and gives them a more humanizing outlook.

First things first, this is now the longest nonmovie arc of this series. Kind of happy it is the case because I had the feeling this arc was going to be resolved this episode, given S1 & the start of S2's track record. Though this season does have 13 episodes, so I expect this is the arc where the extra episode comes in. (Anime only, looking at the titles of the novels here.)

  • There was a good amount of Ikumi stuff we learned. Confirmation that she genuinely wants to help out people more so it was the failure of not being able to help Sakuta that headlines it. As her comment, It is difficult to forget you as she said to Sakuta makes that clear.
  • Also, to add, she was student council president in high school, as Kano mentions.
  • Though she had a boyfriend she lived with in high school, she commuted to school too. This was probably the weirdest thing that was metnioned.
  • The Ex-boyfriend isn't what I expected him to be. Though he had his issues in terms of finding a job.
  • The stuff on the arm seems to be connected to all the #Dreaming incidents as the "Sorry for the sprain" makes that clear.
  • Though what Sakuta wrote was not "I wish to reach kindness." That is what he wrote to Shoko. So her having a connection to Shoko is rather interesting. That is probably the piece that we are missing in some capacity.

I am still not a big fan of having Touko be a character handing out Puberty Syndrome cases so far. The label is I am giving them what they wish, but we all know how a wish can be manipulated to hurt a person. So there is nothing about her I trust. Though her comment on Mai when she approached has me curious. On a side note, I loved the bit of outlook on Kaede. She really has grown and come far since the start of the series. Her whole arc is so satisfying to reflect on.

Cinematography on this adaptation continues to be top notch :wow:

So this episode adapted chapters 13-17.

  • Chapter 13 adapted the parts that Tanaka isn't a part of and was pretty faithful. Like here they look at the handout first, given the anime medium differs from manga.
  • Much like chapter 14, much the same it adapted the rest of the non Tanaka parts. Though I think they skipped the conversation Yoshiki has with the teacher, but maybe that comes back later unless I forgot.
  • Chapter 15 was fully adapted & they adapted the first part of chapter 16.
  • Though for chapter 15, they did change the Yuki & Asako part, and honestly I liked it. Though it was even more tense than it was in the manga.
I really love how the anime is about to take the words and sounds from the manga & present them in the anime medium. The scene where Asako asks Hikaru who he is is a great example of that.

Very interesting conversation between the friends at the start of the episode as the paper outlines a situation very similar to what happened to Hikaru. Of course Maki's comments & Yoshiki's observations are very on point to what you think. Though Asako's comments of we can only judge with our eyes tell us. Though for Yoshiki he knows the two Hikarus are different.

I really liked seeing the friends hanging out, and at that instance you can really see that the new Hikaru feels like a baby of sorts. Which you can see as he looks at the fireworks. Though it looks like Yoshiki found something important.

Good to learn a good deal more about Asako. Her hunch that we saw a few episodes back is elaborated on more, and it is something that runs in the family. Basically she can sense the dead with the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth.

Although for her approaching Hikaru was a close call because she could have died if Yoshiki wasn't there. This Hikaru is not human by any means. Where it really shows is how he views life & death. Life is precious to a human, but for whatever reason, to this Hikaru, life & death mean the same thing. You can tell him saying that really struck a chord with Yoshiki. Though this Hikaru isn't wrong with what happens after your death as your soul remains, but he mostly lacks empathy from how humans view. It does make his attachment towards Yoshiki more interesting.
