Finished GTO. Watching Onizuka do everything within his power to protect his students from harm and give them advice on life issues is inspiring. As someone interested in education as a career, I loved the commentary on teachers who only enter the profession because of limited options rather than having the actual desire to educate. The jealousy that some will feel towards gifted students who know just as much as they do, if not more, and how kids with at home issues tend to not trust authority and be difficult to manage.
Onizuka is academically stupid, but he's a genius in knowing how to effectively communicate with troubled kids and will risk death for the sake of helping one of them through a crisis. He takes pride in his job as much as anyone else. and it really makes him a great teacher. One of the best characters in anime.

HxH is top top tier. Others mentioned Greed Island arc not being so good, but i enjoyed it. Only when you compare it with other arcs of the series that it falls short.
Hunter x Hunter 2011 is the second best shounen out there imo(only FMAB is better). Don't let the young protagonist fool you, a lot of that's intentional. Hunter x Hunter is a subversion of the shounen genre, they're taking a lot of the tropes and flipping them on their heads to make a new, inventive, and honestly better story than its counter parts. The show has a gradual tone shift, shyt gets insanely dark.

shyt's insanebasically how Gon over the course of Chimera ant loses a lot of his innocence and becomes a monster giving no fukks about anything, we see him gradually become colder and darker as things progress, while Meruem starts that way but over time learns compassion, emotions, the value of even a single life. They follow opposite journeys.

Yep, dude even talked about how Gon’s innocence completely warped his view of morality. He literally has the morality of child where as long as you don’t kill or harm anybody close to him and you’re interesting and offer some sort of assistance then you’re good in his book like that one serial killer from greed island. He never had to experience the sensation of lost and grief, so when he finally did he snapped.

The Chimera Ant Arc didnt start until 2013. It hadn't even made it to Toonami yet. Hell as a matter of fact they just caught up to the Chimera Ant Arc on Toonami.
