Mami's death set the tone well for the start of the episode. Where being a Magical Girl isn't all sunshines and rainbows. Especially Homura elaborating that Mami has no one close to her. Given Homura's warning to Madoka earlier, does being a magical girl put the people you associate with at risk? Of course, Madoka lives with a loving family and seeing how she is down after Mami dying, you can't imagine if anything happened to her family.
Sayaka is still visiting Kyosuke, and honestly, I am not sure what their exact relationship is. At the very least, we know he was a talent musician. He seems to be an idol for her. Of course, she looks at her hands and thinks that she doesn't need it as much as he does. Essentially, survivor's guilt is eating up at her. Despite her trying to comfort him, he gets more agitated. On one hand, you can't blame him anyone would be frustrated. Though it appears that Kyuubey is still around. When you add the other which at the end of the episode, which creates a major conflict. Unlike Homura who was willing to back off when Madoka started learning about being a magical girl. She may very well out be set to kill Sayaka.
At the same time, Madoka can't erase the knowledge of being a Magical Girl and Witches. Which happens towards the end of the episode when she sees Hitomi with the Witches Mark on her neck. It feels like it will be inevitable until she becomes a Magical Girl. Especially if Sayaka runs into trouble.

The conversation between Madoka and Homura more and more again reinforces for a bad feeling that is going on. Her fate being sealed more than likely implies there are things at play at this point. Though you know Madoka can't give up on Sayaka. Though I do like Homura doesn't make excuses for her. Although what is she fighting that she continues to press on and prevent the contract of other Magical Girls. As that appears to be more important than fighting Witches for her from what we have seen.
The encounter between Sayaka and the Red Hair Magical Girl is the best indicator that every Magical Girl has their own reasons. For Sayaka familiars can hurt people as much as Witches. However, there are no grief seeds that come from familiars until they are Magical Girls. So spending the energy defeating familiars seems pointless in terms of preserving magic. Essentially, we have two ideals going at it with each other. Meanwhile, Madoka's ideal that magical girls should be fighting alongside each other is crushed. She is more than likely would have formed the contract if Homura didn't show up. The clash that happens felt like it was designed for Madoka to become a Magical Girl. Now with Homura making an appearance I wonder what happens next.

2 seasons of introducing new character after new character and hyping up this tournament.
I should be annoyed but I'm ready
The world building and writing has a certain level of depth you don't see in the normal action shows. It's just not digestible for causal shounen watchers tho. Which is why I get why it is not popular.
I only wished that they could at least tell us that S3 is greenlit like SLF did. Whenever S3 comes its going to be fukking heat

If they don't make a third season I'm smacking somebody. But I'm glad I could just binge two seasons, if I had to wait week to week I can see why it might not be popular.
