The gratuitous depravity/fanservice is as old school as it gets though I grew up on anime being like this for no damn reason so when a show is worth a damn, I don't mind it

In that moment I just caught myself and said I ain't that down bad for anyone's story tossed to the bushes, they spanked her ass red and left her sitting in the dirt if I had walked in on a friend watching that scene I KNOW I woulda started roasting immediately



New saga and the water magician got pushed to the sidelines as well, rather tune back in after the cast comes together cuz the introduction arcs are just too cringe for me.

Scissor Seven season 5 is out on YouTube that's all I needed

It's another one of these shows that has a heavy old school feel to it and I like that they don't shy away from the gore/violence but don't go OD with it either.

The end to the latest episode had me though. Nell now a full on fanservice device for them otaku incels and Alicia getting used to dying

Too many new manga & anime either play it too safe or go so far it comes across as edgy. This show & Kijin Gentoushou both have the right balance for a dark fantasy.

The writing structure reminds me a lot of when I read "The Kept Man of the Princess Knight". The world-building is both well structured & concise as things so far have a reason for being introduced. Plus, Klen has the makings of a good anti-hero with how they've set him up so far.

Just something you have to come to accept with anime and manga these days. Exceptions like 86 & Frieren where there is no fan service are rare af.

Best case is you get stuff like Monogatari & CSM which uses satire as part of their fan service. Where there is an actual purpose to them. Granted you could ask they don't need the fanservice, but that's beyond the point. So many series have fanservice for the sake of fanservice.

Watching shyt like Summer Pockets when all the character interactions are basically pointless fanservice is like . Even worse is that the story is actually decent.

True, the question is if those older fans are more profitable than the other ones. My guess is that both can coexist and nothing will change in the Japanese scene

And time will tell if the Chinese industry will keep their current editorial line of work or if they too will fall into the "big titties and ass for no reason" model if they see there's profits to be made from it.

Depends, China currently is crushing the buildings with Ne Zha and Ne Zha 2, already put studios like Pixar on notice off of that ONE IP.


If they land on a Demon Slayer level project that can do well in theaters shyt will get spooky, China can push out way more content with high quality animation than small ass Japan

I really hope we do, the amount of garbage that gets animated is every season.

This current one is probably the best we've had in years and still, more than half the shows aren't even mid

Tbh that's more a manga & light novel problem. Anime doesn't even scratch how bad it gets for those mediums.

• So many shounens take the CSM formula in the most generic way possible.
• So many isekai take the MT formula in the most generic formula.
• So many Banished from Hero's party take the Shield Hero formula in the most generic way possible. Granted Shield Hero is fukking trash even by isekai standards. Though I did hear Übel Blatt did the formula first.
• I don't even need to get into how bad romcoms & harem can be. Outside of "The Dangers in My Heart" & Kaguya most romcoms are just passable at best.

Lack of originality is such an issue. With how things are going in Japan I doubt that will change anytime soon.
