Takopi's Original Sin was a great 6 episode mini-series. A Top Choice for Anime of the Year.
Tbh after really sitting on it after it finished, the anime has a considerable amount of issues.

  • The whole series is basically misery porn. It has very interesting themes to it. How shytty adults are & how nobody is good or bad.
    • The former just shows one coin of the spectrum. Yes we can see what effect these shytty adults have an effect on these kids. But what about the good adults? That can really hammer the effect adults have on kids, which is never shown. You do have Azuma's brother, but after the emotional scene he isn't shown again.
    • Regarding the latter, that theme wasn't introduced until the finale. I think it is a good lesson for Takopi, but the execution of it was awful. Even worse how Shizuka & Marina bond and become friends is after they see a picture of Takopi in Shizuka's notebook. :skip: Let's ignore the issues that this whole show is built on. This series wants us to treat the 3 main kids as real characters , but it's like, But they are kids; this is what kids do. That is true, but you can't have your cake and eat it too.
    • Basically what you have is a series that tackles dark issues, but does it for pure shock value. Episode 2 has Marina bullying Shizuka for the whole episode, and then Takopi "accidentally" kills Marina. Episode 5 you have the Marina flashback that came out of left field. This is more of an edgy series than a dark one. The show lacks substance and is more emotionally manipulative to the viewer as again mention of it as misery porn.
  • Hats off to the staff; they animated and must have loved the manga. But how the author writes his series rubs me the wrong way. I do think the ending of episode 4 was phenomenal.

Adaptation continues to be on point.

Here they only adapted chapters 10 and 11, the rest of 12, & the scene at the start of chapter 14.

  • Talk about starting the episode with intensity by adapting the Kaoru scene in the bathroom. Though I did like it since it keeps more of the parts with Hikaru & Yoshiki flowing better. Also, the anime medium really does a good job connecting the cliffhanger from volume 2 to where it starts in chapter 12.
  • I don't remember or see Tanaka's sword being mentioned here, which is anime original I believe.
  • There is a background scene between Yuki & Yuuta that isn't in the manga unless it happens later?
  • Some of the conversation that happens between Tanaka & Takeda already happened. Though the anime adapted the rest of their conversation along with that scene from chapter 14.
  • Per usual amazing direction. Particularly when Yoshiki gets sucked into the bathtub. In particular how it handled the voices it really took that page from the manga and made it work in anime form very well.

As usual the anime's direction in about everything is on fukking point. I feel bad for Kaoru. She is having a hard time and now has the hair impurity freaking her out. The funny part of what Yoshiki says to Hikaru here feels akin to what you tell a kid. It really feels like this Hikaru is more like a kid learning how the world is. Of course he is a monster which makes it interesting.

The whole part of Yoshiki getting sucked in the bathtub we once again dive into some of his anxieties. Hearing everything that people are saying about him & Kaoru is just awful. Also I like how we see Hikaru was as a kid because like I said the new Hikaru is basically a kid. You can really see the differences between them.

The aftermath is depressing when Yoshiki mentions, What if that monster attacked Yoshiki's mom or sister? Clearly these impurities are being drawn to him since this new Hikaru came to be. Though he is still sticking to his guns of sticking with this new Hikaru. Despite the clear warning from the older lady.

Tanaka is definitely a wildcard. Honestly, you wonder what side he is really on. Since it definitely feels like he isn't completely on the old men's side.

It's not perfect for sure, but...

Shizuka finding a reason to live is huge. That shift from passive suffering to an active desire to survive, even thrive, is powerful in a setting that often feels nihilistic.

Marina’s arc as well about not falling into the generational trap of a trauma cycle from her manipulative, image-obsessed mother. She wants to not be her mother, and that intention alone gives her more nuance than a flat “bully” archetype.

And Naoki? His realization that even if you love someone, they can be bad for you and that you’re allowed to walk away. He starts off in the background, but he’s the heart. His friendships, especially the ones that form after he breaks free of his toxic attachment, show a glimmer of hope for his own situation.

This is the thing these are good points of the series. Which is why how the author frustrates me because using these points he could have created a dark physiological series where the characters feel real. For me there could have been an emotional connection to them. As Azuma is the only one I cared about where the build up for his character felt on point. As Shizuka & Marina feel way over the top at times to be taken seriously.

I still think it’s a good series with some good elements. It’s just when it comes together the storytelling is messy.

Cot damn Johnny beat the breaks off that nikka :whoo: he was X at the time too...

vortex got smoked by either smile or nice, and that scrap also caused lucky Cyan plane crash when she was a kid :ohhh: the way all these POV's are connecting is crazy, he Link Clicked the fukk outta this setup season

So the DOS, Micky's agency (Queen, Cyan) tryna create beef between the other 2 agencies, Zac's FOMO(Johnnie's, Loli, ahu) and Rock's MG (Ghostblade, Old E-Soul, Dragonboy).

All of this clearly took place in the past tho cuz present day Johnnie's is on DOS and Old Soul is replaced with New E Soul

4 episodes for Kaiju no. 8 to tranformed and kick ass....

:unimpressed:

Then it was only for about 5 mins....

Season 2 fixing to be ass cheeks...
I always heard the manga got some atrocious pacing after the S1 content.

Like Solo Leveling, probably just wait until the series is fully adapted before watching it as a time filler.

Hanako-kun Season 2 - Episode 17 finished up volume 14, adapting chapters 68-70. One interesting scene addition they added was the look outside from Hanako. This is probably something more for manga readers to notice.

Outside of Sumire's Yorishiro color, they continue to adapt this arc extremely well.

A lot to take in with this episode.

The first part is for Sumire. Everything since she became #6's Yorishiro she has been reliving this moment over and over again. The even worse part to add is that she knows that a Yorishiro is what a school mystery cherishes the most. Once again, just like with the last arc, we have Nene as the idealist and Hanako as the realist. Obviously the smart play is to peel off Sumire's Yorishiro, but Nene is too kind. Granted her line of thinking, Sumire could help Aoi make sense.

My god, though the interaction between Aoi & Akane was great, man it was toxic in many ways. I find it interesting Aoi complains that everyone doesn't understand her and is keeping secrets from her, but Akane mentions how part of that issue is that she doesn't open up to people. It is obvious these two each have their own issues. Given the tears that come from Aoi when Akane says he hates her. It definitely feels like Aoi is afraid of people not liking her. You really do get the sense they are true childhood friends, but man their relationship is very interesting and unhealthy at the same time.

Teru offering an interesting take on the Seven Mysteries/Wonders. They threaten the school, but they also protect it. As each of them is being taken down because of Hanako & Nene. It is clear that the story from Teru's perspective, Hanako is the antagonist. Of course we have Tsukasa as well.

Then mention a depressing turn with Aoi not being there when Teru & Akane make it back to the school. It does seem clear that unlike Nene, Teru & Akane Aoi is just normal. So going near the far shore, which is between the living & death. The big information drop is that Aoi being gone fixes Nene's lifespan issue. Though it makes you wonder what does Nene feel about this?

It makes me wonder what we see in the upcoming episodes is why the og Nice killed himself at the start of the series. Feels like everything is starting to connect
