hey, folks. I know I ain't been in here in a minute (still way more on the manga kick) but I got a quick anime-ish question for yall.

General consensus has pretty much been that the first real american equivalent to anime is Avatar: The Last Airbender, right.

But me and my girl were talking earlier, and it got me to thinking:

Is the first real equivalent really Disney's Gargoyles? It had the adult themes, the world building, the long overarching plots, the crazy plot twists, the villains who weren't really villains, etc etc etc

before that, everything was pretty much "foil the villains' kooky plan of the week in 30 minutes for 13 eps, sell some toys."

I never watched Avatar but I can definitely agree with ya'll Gargoyles take. But I'll add this...

Xmen series from the 90's had seasons like anime too. Sure for the most part the episodes were singular but they ran with an overall plot for the season. You had the Sentinels for the 1st season, Sinister/Savage land season 2, season 3 outer space shyt, and etc...

I'm an 80's nikka so the 1st real shyt that we saw as anime over here was Thundercats :mjlol:

I wish OG Pokemon came out in today's climate, i remember this ass whooping :dead:

Any character that graced the original Smash Bros. had already earned their stripes fighting against the odds

I hope Nintendo executes a Smash Bro. movie somehow :wow: would have to be some multi-dimensional threat that pulls all the characters into the Colosseum

Gotdamn JJK season 3 last two episodes were PURE CINEMA. the animation team is just straight flexing nonstop. They really know how to elevate this series man

It makes me sad that One Punch Man got the shaft after seeing stuff like this.
