What are empty stats in the nba?

ok i made a thread about this one player and how his best years was putting up great stats on a bad team and nobody cared and some even said he should have won mvp. Do the empty stats only apply to certain players?

Stats accumulated after the outcome of the game has already been decided. Garbage time stats.

TBH it's about perception on how a player impacts a game. 45 pts can feel"empty" if for example the player has 40 over the first 3 quarters. and disappears in the 4th.

Anyone who's putting up big numbers on bad teams is putting up empty stats
Basically big numbers on terrible teams...if you take 18 shots you are prob gonna avg 20ppg. That doesn't mean your a good player, it just means you have the opportunity to take 18 shots on a bad team.

25 points in the fourth quarter. 0 points in the first three so the team spent the 4th clawing back. If they win dude is considered clutch and no one remember the previous 3 quarters, if they lose no one remembers the 4t. Sounds like James Harden

Empty stats are ones that don't provide a corresponding benefit to the team. For example, a player takes 10 extra shots and scores the same or fewer points than would have been scored if other players took the shots instead. Or he gives up more points on defense than he scores on pffense., etc.
