if y'all take a look at the other videos when you watch the old raw intro, you'll see something that is missing now a days too, signs. It seems like back then everybody in the crowd had a sign. Wrestlers had nicknames, logos, or catchphrases that you could put on a sign and bring to the show. You'll have a couple of people bring some clever signs now like tha keaf but by and large people don't have anything to put on paper and bring to the show or aren't bothered to.

I've noticed this for years. For one thing, the WWE has been micromanaging signs --- taking away signs they don't want you to have, or handing fans signs they want you to put up. Also, so many of these guys don't have any character to begin with, so there's no point of even bringing a sign. People want something to connect to. Youre spot on with catchphrases as well. The most recent catchphrases that got over were Feed Me More and Millions Of Dollars. That's two out of loads of wrestlers that are pretty empty. Meanwhile, Rock, Austin, HHH, Taker, Mankind, Angle, Outlaws, Godfather and I'm sure several others all had catchphrases at the same time.

Seth "Freakin'" Rollins. Lol. Who came up with that shyt :mjlol:

Characters who are genuinely over who are pushed.
Thats it

Miss me with that internet talk when Wrestling was one of the first online fandoms in the 90s too and even then you had cats moaning about marks online (I see you Dusty at Slamboree 98)

And it aint like the storylines were that amazing (save for 97) when you listen to retro podcasts like the Lapsed Fan and Bryan and Vinny and they highlight how trash the segments and characters were in the attitude era. But they had Rock and Stone Cold over as fukk and were pushed so.
Great post. To expand...they don't turn like they used to.

Stone Cold succeeded off a heel-to-face transition, which they seized on ever since he was getting cheers after the Austin 3:16 promo...

...and Rock really excelled after they turned him face-to-heel, when dude was getting _legit_ DIE ROCKY DIE chants.

He originally was corny as hell as Rocky Maivia, debuting at a Survivor Series as a third generation superstar, which caused people to think he was entitled to too much too soon.

Then he joined the Nation of Domination, started calling himself The Rock, and claimed to be a champion of the people until they actually agreed with him.

Both men succeeded because creative adjusted to fan feedback, and displaying the eventual growth to make the change had an additional effect: further endearing them to the audience.

If they did it right, Roman would have already come back around from a heel turn by now, and wouldn't be getting copycat Cena reception.

Good points on the belts. Today's belts look like mediocre shyt. Aside from the IC & US belts, I wouldn't even want to hold those other titles.

Didn't realize the US title in this incarnation has been around since 03, probably why it's so overlooked

Over saturation of product is a big issue.

We see the same guys having the same fukking matches over and over again. How many times did we see some version of Reigns vs Owens/Jericho before the Rumble?

One of the reasons Styles vs Cena has been so dope is that we're not constantly given variations of that match up every week on Smackdown.

Back in the day the Champion wasn't on EVERY show and they didn't wrestle on free TV very often. The mid card and undercard was fleshed out and developed enough to keep the show afloat without the top stars if necessary. Also tv matches are way too formulaic these days, it's fine to have a few signature spots, but damn WWE goes too far with that shyt.

It's kind of one reason I was against another brand split. If there was just one world championship we would have more people feuding over the title. Owens, Styles, Cena, Ambrose, Reigns, Orton and Rollins. All main eventers who can carry a main event feud. Add in upper mid carders like Miz, Bray, Jericho, Ziggler, etc once in awhile and you can have a lively main event scene without having variations of the same match constantly.

Yeah they dont have the star power for a brand split it made sense at first because they basically absorbed wcw and ecw at that time but now :hhh:

They need to start taking a chance and giving guys brief opportunities in the main event to see what they can do.

Having the Champ beat a diverse array of contenders makes them look stronger and it can be done without completely burying guys. Then they can have angles that revolve around guys working their way back of the main event and becoming better competitors along the way.

Having guys actually earn title shots would be a good idea too. Sick of seeing guys just come out, demand title shots and get them.

Ehhhhh, that would be the logical thing, but even before this recent brand split, they were rotating some of the same guys in. It's just a weird dicotemy they have whether it's split brands or all together

I think they have enough talent, but they don't know how to push more than a small group of people at one time. Their tag team division is loaded right now, but its hard to give a damn about it because of how it's booked. The Smackdown mid card should be on fire right now with the Miz leading the charge, but they got Ambrose basically playing with the IC titile before he moves back to the main event.

Star Power has to be built up with solid sustained booking. In NXT they're able to take virtual nobodies and get them over as stars, they can do the same with the guys on the main roster.

Fans want to be invested in guys like Apollo Crews, Dolph Ziggler, The Usos, American Alpha, and the Cruiserweights, but they're not being given a reason to care. All the resources are poured into match time and skits for main eventers......or those stupid skits for whatever comedy act Vince is infatuated with at the time.
