It’s really a shame what has happened to the genre. Black empowerment is a thing of the past and anytime there is black positivity it gets suppressed.
Never idolize rappers, but Jay-Z, Nas are lame as fukk to me. Nas for one being on his high horse talking about he would never promote alcohol now here in 2025 he’s Hennessey’d out everywhere.
It’s just a shame that when you take a step back and look at the people you grew up watching are nothing more than highly paid puppets paid to push an agenda for the invisible puppet masters.

I was such a fan from around 11 until around 30.
The amount of hip hop I consumed in Man Hours is up there, but nowadays I cant even stand the sight of a rapper.
Never imagined in a million years Id turn against something I loved.
As I got older and needed a more mature, serious message for Black folks out of rap given the challenges we face, but sadly dudes stayed poppin bottles and hoes, shooting and promoting anti Black Black criminality for decades on end, no Black power messaging, nothing speaking to the average Black person. Maybe you can say you don’t care about wearing labels and all that. That sounds better than what I’m imagining in my head. You can still worry about your appearance if you wear clothes and shyt from like Walmart or Primark or some shyt lol. I def buy what’s on the clearance rack now. And I’m a good shoe shopper so I’m getting the best that I can get for under 100 dollars. Call me outlet shawty.
