Lol I'm a nikka

You're in the same boat as me. I'm in the middle of a career change and am learning a new trade myself to get into IT.

I already started a thread on a similar matter that may be of interest to you: Should I Study Computer Science or Networking To Get Into The Cyber Security Field?

The Air Force has loads of roles for techie brehs and especially if you're a brehette and even more if you're a woman that's not white for equality reasons. :ehh:

The requirements for women to get in is almost a joke. The military act like women can't run fast or do stuff properly so the threshold for them to get in is really low. It's sort of a slap in the face for the amount of effort men have to put in. Even in athletics women run just as fast as men so it doesn't make sense but if you are a woman or know one then it's easy to get in. :ehh:

With IT depending on what you want to specialise in (specialisation is where the big money's at) your earnings potential is only what you make it and the way the world is going it's a no brainer.:yeshrug:

I'm getting into networking, look into it.:win::blessed:

Interesting.

Actually, you reminded me that with a BA I can work in retail management making 50k a year. I was about to drop out.

What made you go back to retail? U do retail sales ?

Can't express that enough:wow:

I got a degree and diploma in Networking and Technology, yet always fall back on retail because it's all I know:mjcry::

If you are good with people, persuasive with the product, and good with numbers...shyt is like the back of your hand easy:ehh:.

Honestly, it never left me :francis:. I was a computer instructor at one point in my life and my joy for the IT industry went in the shytter the moment I found out the grim truth that companies treat computer techs like pawns. Especially non profit organizations. The moment I was told that I wasn't going to get paid more beyond my capabilities made me just throw in the towel. Plus the elitism and gatekeeping shyt from the college years including my journey for getting my BA just had me go back to the business world. I think the moment I left my previous job just dawned on me that I loved the game.

When I used to work in the front of my previous job, I actually helped customers with buying things. I feel more at home with doing retail than I ever did as a computer technician. Right now I'm a seasonal sales rep at Best Buy and I love it so much:wow:. Just the joy of selling product to the masses and folks treating you like you the shyt and the fragrance just gives me a rush. Don't get me wrong, retail is hell because you often deal with buttheads and doofus ass folks, along with some staff members :francis:. Beyond that, it's a beautiful position and it's up to you to make the most of it.

Geek squad sounds like it would be a good start for you. You're probably going to need a cert (A+) or a very passionate cold pitch to the hiring manager that you are capable.

AT&T retail sales reps get paid good.

If you're still young and willing, the military would set you up nicely. You could do the reserves.

I'm about to go part time to school and won't graduate for another 3-5 years depending on how many classes I can take.

Thing is bills won't stop, so I gotta focus on the best full-time gig for the next few years until I'm finished with school.

I'm working on IT certs in the meantime, so I'll try to get a job in that.

Only jobs I can think of that are good with no college degree are :

Something IT
Usps
Some government job? Never heard of a specific one just a government job.
Sales

What else is there ?
Firefighter in a major city

I know most decent places here in the Midwest start out in the lower 50s and max on in the 70s/80s after a couple years. We just talking the rank of firefighter, not lieutenant, captain, etc or even including overtime

I have my EMT-B and basic firefighter operations certs. It just takes forever to get called up by a decent department( literally years)

Probably the most recession proof job in the world, not a lot of brehs in it either :manny:

EMT school only like 4 hours, 2-3 days outta the week

I just see it as mainly ignorance.

Like when I was pursuing it heavy 2 years ago, nikkas would say shyt like “You tryna run into burning building :usure:

Them not knowing that 85% of emergency calls are EMS in nature, you can go weeks without having a structure fire

Basically, it's a cutthroat industry. You have older heads that won't allow the younger ones to gain experience or drop knowledge for them to prosper. Then you have family members, friends, and even random strangers asking you for computer solutions like you are a walking helpdesk. When I went back to college to get my BA, I was focus on going the networking route. Yet, the longer I was in the program, the more I realize that the shyt wasn't fun no more. Especially my programming class. Since I actually started a trade in accounting, I decided to change my course to business. Best decision I ever made because it brought out the best of me and made me realize where my heart truly is. As far as my next step is concern, I'm hoping to one day start a business. Until then, I'm just gaining experience and longevity right now. I'm seasonal but treating the gig like every day is a interview. I want to hopefully move up in the company, if not...:yeshrug:at least I'll have the experience to do my own thing.

If you can swing it, get a night-shift job in security -- something where you basically just have to sit there, and they let you bring your laptop. You can study, make money while you're making money, whatever.

Health executive officer
Army sniper
air traffic controller - this may have changed
Truck driver
estate agent
Sportsman
Electrician

I think you’re a bit confused about the military :russ: that Sniper doesn’t get paid anymore than anyone else with his and now her same pay grade.
