I agree but i will say 2pac, the jacka,soulja slim,pun, jmj and biggie are the only exceptions to this due to:
2pac- had multiple platinum albums and sucessful movies but unfortunatly him being incarcerated through most of his career then murdered while he was on top of the rap game robbed us of what coulda been, killumimati was a bittersweet glimpse of that.
Biggie: after pacs death rap shifted back to nyc, nas was king of the city with IWW selling 3xplatinum, biggie was looking to get his spot back hypnotize drops february of 97 and all about the benjamins drops on the radio as well with the release of LAD less than a month away hype around it is crazy, unfortunatly he gets killed 2 weeks before the album drops. He was slates to appear on a bunch remixes that summer namely, honey remix, tony remix, a song with terror squad, songs with camron,lil cease album, commission etc.
Soulja Slim: though i think he wouldnt have lived pass 2005, '04 was gonna be his yr with slow motion and noila clap (he was originally to appear on this) he was already hailed as the "2pac" of the south before his death, he was also in talks of working with g unit had all this came into fruition with his polarizing influence on lil wayne, bg,juvenile,lil boosie and others no doubt hurricane jeezy in 05 was happenin regardless, slim woulda definitly been where gucci is for sure with his influence on the game today(kodak black,face tats).

Jmj- no explanation needed.

Big pun-first 2xplatinum and grammy nominated latin artist, surpassed big in most guest appearances in 99 alone and his star was just growing brighter.

But that "What could have been" factor lends to the mystique of those artists and, outside of squabbles between stans, no one ever thinks "What could have been" would be a fall off. I'm pretty sure, despite their greatness, they would have never lived up to the expectations we've set for them and since they passed they'll never have to. Imagine Jay died after Blueprint or Nas died after Stillmatic. Do you think the hate the two of them get from certain segments of standom would exist? They wouldn't have the respective dud albums on their records that people bring up to criticize them. And honestly, no one feels comfortable talking bad about the dead. Death shields you from a certain level of criticism especially when your talent and the work you did put out was so amazing. I feel uncomfortable even making this argument and I'm not even shytting on these nikkas:mjlol:

Being honest, the two that came to mind were Sean Price and Prodigy

Not saying that either wasn’t dope (because both were dope) but I heard from and saw people that would never mention either in a conversation until they passed away :manny:

Hate to say it but the correct answer to this is big L

Can't say biggie, he had a good amount of work before he passed, classic features, 2 classic albums, tv appearance, sold millions, junior mafia and lil kim albums both great albums

Let some people tell you big L was a ny legend, when the truth is, before big L died he was barely successfully local. His mystique grew because a lot of huge stars shouted him out and his freestyle took off on social media like wildfire after he died. He would be the correct answer here.

Agreed but with pac for example he had that IT factor about him similar to marvin and marely. You do agree that his death opened the flood gates for artist like dmx,50, ja and that "thug trend" mainstream westcoast rap died with him? Biggie lane was filled by jayz and pun but even they careers woulda been different because if biggie didnt die: the city is mine doesnt happen neither does hard knock life as both songs mention his demise
